With what I have spent on kits and tools, I could have almost bought a really nice Gibson....
but I wouldn’t have had anywhere near as much fun!

Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.
Or anywhere near as good a guitar!

I had many Gibsons in the past, all great in their own way, all but one sold during various financial hiccups, as were all my Fenders and other stuff. Now things are more stable for me I could go out and buy most of what I want but discovering this site has changed my whole outlook on guitars. I have always felt that all the offerings from the Big Two had something missing, what I've discovered is that it is the total involvement of creating something yourself which is exactly what you want, whether cosmetically, tonal, physical dimensions or any of a myriad of different combinations. The one rule is there are no rules and I am enjoying the whole process. This site has helped me immensely and the contributors are supportive, knowledgeable and entertaining. I will never buy a guitar again. I am now planning a few builds that are a bit left field and that is half the fun, stuff you can't get in the shops, that luthiers would ask a small fortune to create. And everything is unique,

+1 to what impala59 said. For me, I could also afford pretty much any guitar (or effect pedal, or amp) I wanted (although getting permission is a bit trickier). But having those things isn't really the point. It's the humbling, frustrating, enjoyable, and rewarding journey that's the real draw.

Terrible weather today so it was the perfect reason to work on this. Off with the head and replace with the first piece of IKEA. I feel as if Igor would approve.

Are you planning to still have truss rod adjustment access?
