Just keep going with the clear and intermittent wet sand with 1200 till your happy. It's usually 3 times as many as you planned if not a lot more, my current build has 60 coats of Tru oil on the top, about 50 and sealer on the back and sides.Originally Posted by SamSquare
As to your heel, you can add a cap and taper it smooth. Nice bit of burl would set it off nicely.
My PRS build has a similar heel, I've just inlayed it with M.O.P.

With veneer tops, I never sand before I have stain and clear or Tru oil on. Other than a very light dry sand with 600 prior to stain but only if it needs it and with only enough pressure to move the paper.
Also when doing a vintage burst a bottle of alcohol and clean rags to work the fade is the trick!
