Thread: Mark's LPM-1E

Spent some time gently blending in the scratches on the veneer as best I could. Thanks to some advice @Andy40 gave me some time ago. A small glue spot was taken care of with goofoff and trusty hard bristle toothbrush. Wipe down with gum turps.

Now ready to start staining hopefully tomorrow night.

2 stain coats on tonight. Fairly happy with the result as it was pretty much exactly what I had in mind for this build.

Sanding sealer tomorrow and a fine 400 sand once dry.

Good tip with the packing foam, Mark. Wish I had thought of it. The stain and grain are looking really good. Looking forward to seeing photos of it clear coated.

Nice work. I'm also looking forward to seeing the end result.

    Your favourite..... FW golden teak

I know you've had a bad prior experience with it on a fretboard. But after extensive tests on veneer etc. This one is doing exactly what I want it to.

Will be lightly sanding off the sanding sealer hopefully tonight and then either add more stain if needed or scrape the top of the binding.

Be good if I can get the top clear coated this weekend, so it's got a good chance to harden before i do the back, sides and neck. Going for a textured back and neck in a solid colour, with maybe some grain pop showing thru (would be a bonus). Not a smooth glossy neck and back as per some of the more modern textured satin Gibson finishes.

We will see, how that all pans out.

15 coats of clear gassing off overnight. Applied using SCA clear as per @phrozin 's schedule .. 2 coats on the headstock which I will flatten off later on today or tomorrow before applying the decal. Then finish the schedule on the headstock while burying the decal. Really happy with the quality of that SCA stuff. So good to work with.

Wow! That clear really brings everything out nicely.
Are you using rattle cans or gun?

Also, I'm not quite getting the "textured" thing on the neck. Please explain...

    SCA rattle can clear.

I probly didn't explain the textured thing very well sorry. Here's a few shots of my Gibson's with the textured back going on. Just not grain filled with satin finish and you can see the grain rather than being totally smooth and glossy.

You might have to zoom in a little, it's hard to capture in photo.

Does that kind of explain it better?
