I've never thought about doing this, but I always assumed you would take the metal pickup cover off first so the wax could get around the coils better.
    Current:
    GTH-1

    Completed:
    AST-1FB
First Act ME276 (resurrected curb-side find)
    ES-5V
    Scratchie lapsteel
    Custom ST-1 12 String
    JBA-4
    TL-1TB
    Scratch Lapsteel
    Meinl DIY Cajon
    Cigar Box lap steel

    Wishing:
    Baritone
Open D/Standard Double 6 twin neck

I assumed the same! But the metal was spot welded on the back and as I don't have a welder I didn't risk separating them! That's why I sat them in for around 10 mins so the wax could penetrate as much as possible

I'm sure you can sneak in a bit of time here or there. With all you've done so far, I'm sure soldering isn't going to be a problem!

Hey Shaz, it's actually just soldered on, take a very fine Japenese saw to it and it should split right up and then just heat the solder back up to reseal it
