I will be using a Tune-o-matic bridge on this guitar but as there is no neck angle on a Tele I have to recess the bridge. Didn’t turn out too neat but it will be covered by the bridge, so I will not spend too much more time on it.

“Not happy Jan” with the output jack access hole. Not even close to being centred. I drilled a pilot hole first but still managed to “walk” the spade bit off centre. Very amateurish: \

Do you have a round or square jack plate? Square one might allow you to get the file out and centre that hole a bit more...

I've bought one of those spiffy tight fitting round ones Gav. I've used them before and I really like the look of them. Actually I am not too concerned about the looks, just disappointed that I stuffed up on something so obvious and so simple.

I thought I was following the pilot hole but as soon as the "wings" of the spade bit dug into the body I knew it was too late. No steaming out THAT "scratch" lol.

Hi EG, welcome to the Forums and thank you for the complement.

At one stage I was going to try and hide the ply with a dark burst, but I have really grown to like it as a feature now. So it will be a natural finish in either naughty oil (we are not allowed to say Tru-oil lol) or some Minwax satin finish. I can't see the point of doing much else as the pine will dent very easily and ruin any finish I end up using.

The TO will give it a slight amber colour whereas the minwax will retain the very light colour of the pine.

Time for a quick update.

I have finished sanding the body down to 400 grit. Smooth as, but not much to show, so no photos.

I have ordered some parts from China and it is taking longer than I had hoped so there is not much more I can do to the body for the time being, so I started on the neck.

I cut the headstock with my trusty coping saw, and it and the neck have been sanded down to 400 grit. I have removed the plastic fret dots and replaced them with MoP dots, removed the plastic nut and leveled the frets.

As I said, not much to show but that’s the build up to date. For anybody interested in the trivia of this build, I have now spent 65 hours on this build, and enjoyed every minute of it so far.

3. Fretboard finished. Frets leveled. There is always one fret that is lower than the rest, so the frets ended up pretty low. Not altogether a bad thing.
