Ha! One of the key ways of being seen as an electronics expert is to jiggle wires on the power supply...or in this case, connect the battery.

I don't know if you are new to active pickups or not. I learned the hard way with my G&L that if you leave the guitar plugged in, you'll drain the battery pretty quickly. Most guitars with active electronics disconnect the battery by using a stereo jack. The ground wire for the battery connects to the "ring" terminal on the jack. Since there is no ring on a normal guitar plug, the ring terminal connects on the jack is connected sleeve, which is the cable ground. When there is no plug, the battery ground is disconnected. You probably know all this, but it took me a whole bunch of batteries to learn this ;-)

Looks great with the white/black contrasts.

I just asked myself if the humbucker rings are mounted right for the higher side should face in the direction of the bridge.
Then the humbuckers should run more parallel with the strings.
    Build #1 Explorer EXM-1
    Build #2 IB-4 P-Bass
    Build #3 Single-Cut
    Epiphone Gothic Modifying and upgrading
    Build #4 HB-4 Custom

Yeah I actually tried changing the ring orientation. But the humbucker always ends up in the same angle
No sure if u am doing something very dumb or just to put some foam under it to make it more parallel or should I just get a new set of rings ( currently using the ones that came in the kit.

    Thanks for the feedback back

Yeah I saw that in the installation notes

Juan I haven't looked at yours...but Alexej, yours it probably because you have the wrong pickup rings. The angled rings are for archtop guitars like an ES or LP. They are not for flat guitars like an explorer. Since your top is flat, you need flat rings. You could flatten the ones you have with some sand paper. Or you could just buy a set...they are not expensive. They come in short or tall sizes. Judging by the pic, it may not matter which, you get, but if in doubt get the taller ones. If it's too tall you can sand off the bottom, but if it's too short it's hard to add material ;-) That said, the tall should be fine. I am guessing the short ones are for strat style guitars that have lower bridges. Since you have the TOM, the tall one is probably the one you want.

The strings run not parallel with the flat body, so actually the angled rings should help to align the humbuckers parallel to the strings, at least in theory 🙂 And I have seen angled rings on other Explorer models. In any case, the higher side should face the bridge, and some foam should help, too.

If needed, you can also sand the pup rings down a bit using sand-paper. My scratch explorer also has an angled pup ring.

    1+ on sanding the rings.

So it turns out it was just that. The pup didn’t have enough room to be tilted into the right possibility. Had to sand the ring and grind the cavity an extra mm and it now looks heaps better. Have sound tested it and it sounds and plays great. Now just have to fine tune the pickup height and should be good to go

This is hot it ended up looking like

That is a great looking guitar. I'm currently building a 7 string explorer and waiting for the clear to harden properly. I always wanted to spray it white too but was persuaded to stain it.
