Nice headstock shaping

Nice work.
My only tip is to use low tack masking tape ( the blue stuff ) to do your marking out on, saves having to sand pencil marks off the wood and a simple cleanup with Goof Off.
Conversion bushes are in and all tuners line up :)

More bits arrived today, from Ace guitar parts:

Lining up OK,except for the string through holes. Strings do go through, though:

D'oh!!!
BTW to cover the sloppy string through holes on the back, I got one of these.

cheers, Mark.
Today I found out that the local mechanic has a drill press, so I decided to fill and drill.
Lucky it's going to be a solid colour:

That bridge plate is also a string through from on top so no need to re-drill string through if you don't want to.
Though it won't sound quite like a Tele without them.
For a nice neat line of string ferrules on the rear of the body, you really need to drill from both sides.
Start by getting the bridge positioned correctly on the top of the body, then mark the position of the six string holes.
Ideally using a drill press, or else a drill stand to keep the drill vertical, drill the two outer holes all the way through the body, but the four inner ones only 2/3 of the way through (mark the drill bit with tape to stop going too far.
Turn the guitar body over and using the bridge as a template, position the two outer string holes over the holes in the body and mark the position of the four inner string holes.
Now drill these string holes, again going about 2/3 the way through the body (so don’t remove the tape from the drill until you’ve done this).
Now you should have a nice neat row of string holes on the back, all ready for widening to fit the ferrules in.
Thanks for that Simon, I will ask the mechanic to do it like that, but haven't seen his press yet
Whilst waiting for second lot of filler to dry, I did a bit of levelling:

I think this will be OK:

I put it together again, but this time tuned to pitch (top load configuration only, no electronics). I am happy to report everything fine and quite loud acoustically :) I still need to drill holes for the PG, but it is too cold and damp for painting ATM, anyway.

Looks good.
On my phone the scratch plate looks pale mint green?

The mint looks cool and cannot remember what you had in mind for colour scheme?
Should look nice.

Four 3 ply pick guards from Vanson Guitars (ebay UK). Now with added GST since 1/7/2018 :(

Do you have to buy all 4?
Carbatec got me, it was just a matter of time:

After doing a test run on my practice head stock, I decided to make the lower edge of the real head stock sharper:

Tomorrow I will be staining the neck. Not exactly sure how much to dilute this stuff though, seems just a little too dark at full strength:https://s19.postimg.cc/4qdicy87n/20180717_194520.jpg
LOLOLOLOL! Carbatec strikes again!
The first attempt at staining the neck, I mixed metho 25ml to 75ml golden teak. The pic doesn't really show how dark it turned out, but I wasn't happy with it.

I sanded it back and added an extra 150ml of metho to the mix. This was much more to my liking but still very dark in places.

Is it just a matter of sanding the dark areas? I am totally in the dark with this stuff
https://s19.postimg.cc/5uyua9mkz/201...851_-_Copy.jpg
I'd guess not, I'd say sanding the dark areas will result in a patchy look. If you are after the aged look, I'd go much more dilute. The timber will yellow a fair bit with a gloss clear on it anyway, it won't look white with a clearcoat on it. Particularly if you use a polyurethane.
I'd sand it right back, shouldn't be too hard as you have the rosewood neck, and then restain with a much weaker solution.

First sanding sealer coat applied:

Neck is giving me hell, using a walnut stain/varnish, now:

https://s19.postimg.cc/wj96fhtk3/20180729_121204.jpg
The body got its second coat of sanding sealer. It's a pity I ruined the string through holes as it is looking nice with just the sanding sealer applied:

https://s19.postimg.cc/crc8zwpkj/20180831_105803.jpg
The neck, however, is a different story. The walnut stain varnish was a disaster, and sanding it off proved difficult due to it not drying completely. I have resigned myself to live with a linseed oil finish and patchy bits:

120 & 180 grit will get that off the neck.

Fair enough, you can only go so far with sanding before introducing bigger problems.

I'm back.
Only took me a year to nearly finish it (note wonky string ferrules and unfinished neck), but here it is anyway:

I had to wait for summer to paint it, too cold and damp during winter down here.

It's not my worst player and seems to possess a certain "Mojo", funnily enough.

When I hammered this in, I should have taken more care, obviously. It stopped the build until this week. On the positive side, the relic job has a flying start.

I had an issue with the neck pick up when I was wiring it up. I thought I had wired it wrong, but the pick up was faulty, so I used one out of my old Monterey Tele.

It looks nice Thunderbird, great job mate.
