Looks good Kurt!
Looks awesome Kurt! nice work.
Nice grain popping Kurt, looks like there may be a bit of glue on the cap seam down the bottom. Can't wait to see some dark green stain applied, presume thats happening soon ?
Oh yeah we found a bit of glue that was too stubborn and wasn't coming off. We also found that the big glue spot near the neck pickup cavity is not a glue spot but where a machine has gone through the cap, and obviously under the cap is a shitload of glue.
As for the stain woks, that's happening whenever DB sends it through which I have heard nothing about so after 3 weeks, God knows. Was supposedly sent via express on Friday I think it was
Yeah ok Kurt thanks for the update, cant do much about glue on thin caps so you just have to see how it looks after the stain coat.
Sometimes the marks sort of blend in, see how it goes. Send DB an email to make sure he sent the stain kit.
What is the deadline date ie birthday ?
Deadline is suppose to be 15 of July, exactly a week from now. It won't make it, not even close. Oh well, can only do my best 😊
First coat of stain finally after having to reorder some new stain and oh man it's been hectic haha

All in all.. I'm pretty damn happy with it haha..
Watermelon !
colour looks awesome Kurt,
you got me mega keen to do a green LP, I happen to have a spare LP-1M in the pile !
Looks delicious. Will pop beautifully with some clears.
@nick was my first thought aswell, can't wait for summer, watermelon season will be great :P
@Woks thanks man! And hell yeah green is the way to go. If you couldnt decide ultimately on a colour scheme, have a look at the Gibson custom model green widow. That's kind of what I'm trying to replicate. They do it in multiple and extremely beautiful colours! Will defiantly win you over :)
@brodie thanks man! Should pop very nicely with clears, sadly were a while away from that yet 😔 have to do some priming and get the solid colour on the back and sides 😊
What ever you 2 could be talking about, I have no idea. But we have an update. All been taped up and primer'd on the back and sides ready for the black. We've all seen what primer looks like, nothing exciting so I won't post pictures. Long boarded it back with 120 to reveal any low spots and surprisingly this one had very few. so I primed her again, and now im just waiting for her to dry before I can sand it back with something a lot higher, possibly somewhere between 400-600.
sounds good Kurt, was wondering how progress was going on the late birthday present.
Don't worry about mine and Pest's ramblings, basically Pest caught me out using too smaller scientific unit (mega = 1,000,000) he wanted a unit with 21 more zeros hahaha
Okay some we have bit of an adventure with this build in the last 24 hours. Went and visited Pabs last night and we did some fret levelling and put some that fretboard conditioner stuff on it, looks amazing! Thanks Pabs!!
This morning, I taped up the neck, and sprayed it black, nothing fancy happening just yet so I won't bother posting photos of that until it's finished.
I also did the burst on the front of the guitar this morning. Now I originally had an airbrush to do it with, more control and stability while painting etc. plus I already knew how to use an airbrush to paint, but unfortunately I broke it haha. So I did it with a spray can.. And boy was I scared. But it turned out pretty decent considering I had never done this before with a spray can. my phone is not currently allowing me to post pictures but I'll do it on the computer later this arvo :)
sounds good Kurt, always good to meet another forumite too. Well done Pabs helping on the fret level.
Look forward to the updated pics Kurt
so excuse my messy shed, but here is my first attempt at soing a burst using spray paint cans, honestly, i think i did alright :P

now ive been thinking about the wiring for this beast of a guitar, i dont want to get too crazy with it because this is going to a newbie guitar player, so i was thinking of just throwing in a killswitch, simple yet elegant, because i really hate the 2 volume thing, not to mention it would just confuse the missus. I hope wierdy gets a look at this and can help me :p
secondly, i want to put a waterslip decal on it, simple design. Itll say 'Princess' in the Gibson styled writing. is aanyone able to do this for me pleeeaseee, dont mind paying for it, just think it would be cool and thoughtful!
Cheers,
Kurt
"Messy". You've seen my garage, dude....
Great work, this has come up a treat.
Hey Kurt, thats the cleanest 'messy' shed I've seen. Great work on the burst, hard to be concise with a spray can.
If you have access to an inkjet printer I buy the blank waterslide paper off ebay, make up your logo in Word or some other program, print it and shoot a clear coat over it, trim the logo as close to the edge, put it in water and slide it off onto the headstock. Takes a bit of practice.
Otherwise shoot an email to Andyport can do you a cool logo email is citysigns at internode.on.net
If you want a white logo to go on your black headstock, hit up Andyport. A regular printer won't print white.
Cheers fellas, just emailed him, hopefully we can get something sorted!
nice burst Kurt
Master volume, individual tones, plus kill switch?
Looks awesome Kurt! Burst came out really well.
Something like this...?

You can use an On/Off, On/On or even On/Off/Momentary toggle (or push button) as the kill switch, depending on how you want to use it.
That's a mighty fine burst for a first effort.
Also a +1 for AndyPort from me. he did my Wasp, and it came up a treat. He'll look after you. :)
+1 on Andy here! He did the logo for the Frankenpester and it's a very nice vinyl decal!
thanks for all your kind words fellas.
Vinyl decal is currently being created by andyport.
@wierdy, that should work perfectly! Just on of those on/on dpdt mini toggles that I got should work fine right?
hey Kurt, might pay to post a pic of the bottom of the DPDT mini toggles and Weirdy will be able to tell you which lugs to solder to
Yep, a DPDT will be fine (just ignore the extra set of lugs).
Okay, small update on this things, I'm just putting in some shielding then I have to wire it up, I've been slack I know, I know!
Good stuff Kurt. On the home stretch now. Presume clear coats are done and the neck is glued?
Clear coats are done yes, was waiting until after the wiring was finished to glue the neck in, but was thinking about it, the neck pickup should be pushed right up against the neck right? Meaning the neck had to be glued first?
yeah Kurt I glue the neck before screwing the pups in and doing the wiring. Means you can mount the neck pup flush with the end of the fingerboard.
A tip I used to forget is run the 4 switch wires to the control cavity before you put the pups in !
Thanks woks! Should be glueing the neck in today, any last minute tips for me? As well as your luck! I think I'm going to need it haha.
On another note, have just finished sorting out details with Andy for a vinyl headstock logo, will post pictures when it arrives.
Hey Kurt, before you glue the neck do a mock build with the neck clamped and put both E strings on. I use a thin piece of scap wood between the clamp and fingerboard so the strings won't touch the clamp/wood. Presume the clear coats are finished and you can knock the bridge posts in so you can do this ? Don't forget to run the earth wire to the control cavity, make sure plenty of bare wire touches the tailpiece post. Check the string offset of the fingerboard and a rough idea of the string action so when the bridge is in the lowest position the strings should be touching the 22nd fret. When you do the mock build put the neck pup in the cavity to make sure it fits ok.
Another really good tip is to tape off all the areas around the neck joint so when glue oozes out it will protect the finish.
Glue all the surfaces that make contact with the neck heel/tenon and pocket. Clamp for at least 24 hours. Use titebond glue is the best.
Good luck !
Okay, another update, neck is glued, wiring is done and works a charm. Just have to screw everything in and do a setup basically ^.^ pictures up later! Yeeew!
Hope your missus likes her new guitar.
well done Kurt, look forward to seeing pics.
By the sounds of it, it is closer to ur missus's birthday next year than this year ?
Give it to her next birthday your present is sorted hahha
