    Testing a finish

I want to test the finish to make sure I get the look I'm after before starting on the guitar.
I'm going to be using dingotone with timbermate for highlighting the grain
would a piece of pine from the green shed give me a decent idea what the end result will look like or should I try and get test pieces of the same types of wood?

My 2 current kits use ash and maple

    Hi Sean,
pine will give you a rough idea how it will look on maple but ash grain is quite a bit darker. I suggest you sand your body and do a test on the tremelo spring cavity, the neck pocket or an area underneath the pickguard won't be visible. This biggest area under the pickguard is the between the pickguard cavity and the lower horn
