    Sg-1f

As I cannot wait until early next year for my custom order JR-1DCS, have left over wood stains to 'recycle' and with Xmas just around the corner, it was time to convince the CFO that another kit was required in the interim. And so a 'Sunday Special' SG-1F was ordered.

Although I have not yet received the kit my mind has been busy ticking over the build-plan.. Kluson tuners, upgraded pots and drop-caps are in order and maybe some mechanism inbuilt so I can easily change over the pups in the future. I have some cherry-red & black Colourtone to use up, so this will be used on the body. Finish & neck; Tru-Oil (make some space available in the naughty room, mushroom & bacon pizza my favourite ). Not sure if I will stain the headstock, maybe a veneer. Headstock shape to be my second 'live' attempt at a traditional 'G' style shape. Also plan to have a decal on this build.

Had a few practice runs on some scrap wood to 'hone' my coping saw skills for the headstock design. 3rd time lucky.. ended up with a nice square cut so a bit more confident when working on the real deal.

nice one Andrew, the last headstock shape looks good. Plans for the SG-1F sound good, I was tempted to order one but still got too many builds on now.
Well done getting approval from the CFO for an interim kit, I'd call the SG an early xmas present !

That's pretty fine cutting with a coping saw.

Yeah I saw that SG-1F sale on FB. I'm really tempted, but financial pressures mean I can't at the moment. I even sold my bass and one of my guitars so I could justify getting a couple more kits, but all the money has been eaten up by other costs and we're still eating into savings. I really do wish I could be making some guitars right now.

Andrew cool plans. as too changing pickups easily ( and the benefit of splitting options) have a look at the seymour duncan triple shot pickup mounts. Might be what your chasing.

Yes, I'll take it as an early Xmas present . I think the real reason is more along the lines of that I'm now in the house making a lot of noise on my guitars as opposed to being out of the way in the workshop!

Nice. It'll be good to have another sweet SG builder keeping a diary alongside me too.

    I love a good SG.

Cheers Fretworn. It has taken me a lot of offline practice. Your next build will be all the more sweeter and satisfying after riding out the ebbs and flows that cashflows can bring.
