    DSt 1 not working

    Hi all
I'm relatively new to the electric guitar and just built my first Pitbull kit, a dst1 with mahogany body. After all the finishing I assembled the whole thing and plugged it into my amp to find there was no output. The only points of soldering was a yellow and black cable from the volume control which I soldered to the output jack. I switched them around to see if that was the mistake but still no sound. Just wondering if anyone knows what's wrong, thanks.

    Hi and welcome Willem.

Just checking, what is the dst1 kit?

Also, can you include a photo of the pre-soldered section, and the jack soldering. It might give an indication as to the problem.

The photos may need to be reduced in size to be shown on this forum. The longest side cannot be more than 1000 (or 1500!) pixels.

The black wire from the volume pot also contains a white wire and the ground (shielding). The white wire is the hot wire. The yellow/orange wire is probably the bridge ground.

You will need to desolder the jack socket. Then strip the end of the black wire and so that you can locate the white wire. The white wire will need to be stripped a bit and soldered to the jack hot terminal, and the black shielding wire soldered to the jack ground. The yellow orange wire should be soldered to the back of the tremolo claw.

    I hope this helps.

Oh ok, so I split off the white wire inside and route the yellow to the bridge?
    Thanks

Also, but it is hard to see from the pictures, you may want to use more solder when soldering to the jack socket. There is lots of room to add heaps of solder on those lugs.

Yes. There should be a drilled hole from the pickup cavity into the tremolo spring cavity.

Additional: The orange wire should be soldered onto the trem claw.

This link shows where the orange wire should be soldered - https://www.buildyourownguitar.com.a...l=1#post225889

It's exactly as TD has suggested, as far as I can see. Orange wire to the claw. JUST the black wire to the jack. The shielding wire should go to the the jack's ground (the ring lug). The white to the jack's hot (tip lug).

That should work if all the other connections are correct. The pickguard came pre-wired, correct?
