TLA 1 kit has arrived! Hi All!

    Hi All,

Happy to start this build, my brother built his own parts caster tele about 15 years ago and i had borrowed that guitar off him the past few months and really liked it!

So anyways i plan to paint the body a solid colour, nice in glossy etc

Have a p90 at the bridge (brother has a hardtail bridge lying around), just one pickup guitar, i will rout the bridge pickup to fit the soapbar and fill the excess from the original telestyle brige

The only thing i am new to is how to finish the neck, i have the maple neck and would like a vintage yellowed look to it
any ideas how this could be achieved ?

Also do not like the white binding that has come on this body so will route the body with a roundover bit and also probably add a few strat like shape to the body by sloping where the strumming arm comes over and shaping a belly cavity on the back.

Hello everybody i look forward to your assistance with the questions i will no doubt have!
I am based in coromandel , New Zealand

    cheers

    Jamie

    Hi and welcome qpranger.

Quite a few builders like the idea of the belly carve and arm carve for the Tele style guitars.

Not sure about the binding (in fact, I'm not sure why the ash tele has binding - the one I build last year didn't). The scratch pine tele I did has a large round over on the front and back and I think it looks good.

As for the maple vintage looking neck: I used a golden teak stain on the neck of my TB-4 which has a maple neck. If that was diluted a bit more it may look more vintage. I used old baltic stain on the neck of the scratch tele. I'm not sure what is available in NZ. I usually just use Tru-oil which creates a slight amber colour. It really depends on what vintage yellow colour you are after.
