While it’s open, I’d glue a nice block on the inside of the front upper shoulder so you can put a strap button there rather than have it on the heel area. If you want to of course.

Good Point Sir! After having extensively remodelled the neck heel, the last thing I want to do is have a strap attachment point hanging out of the blessed thing.

The original would have had a strap tied to the headstock. But we can do better than that these days.

All the sins are concealed within the body, so why not just glue some extra wood to it?

There is that, will grant you, but the key being with added wood, I’d need to get it behind the existing post and bearer, and I’d likely still have to get some form of support post under it.

Mark's solution would be my approach as well.
It would more support to the top.

Lets not contemplate what madness Igor would counsel. That way lies stripped binding, the rear removed and the entire post disposed of in favour of replicating the original Gibbo reinforcement for authenticity. Not prepared to go that far.
