Firstly, I think the competition this month is so strong.... Congratulations to all the other very talented folk here for producing some beautiful instruments.....

My first PBG kit is finally done!

It only took 12 months (from actually getting the kit) to complete... It's probably not a record for slowest build... And definitely not the quickest. But it's been an awesome learning curve and very enjoyable.

What started as a cardboard box full of parts and bits of wood, now has many many hours of sanding, watered down Timber Mate ebony grain filler, more sanding and then a heap of coats of TO (about 20 on the body and 6 on the neck)

As I mentioned in my build thread, I just couldn't warm to the glossy shine, so I have taken the gloss back to a nice satin finish using a very old and soft scotch pad. It's so flat and silky now. Soooo much better than I had imagined ever possible.

The cavity cover and truss rod cover plate were cut and shaped from a sheet of 2mm carbon fibre which I think helps keep the modern and lightweight look and matches well to the final body colour and finish.

The cavities are all shielded with copper tape and bonded.

The wiring and pickups is all stock kit parts, plumbed up as per the PB IB5 diagram at the moment. I may yet do some experiments yet with coil splitting and different caps.

It's now strung it with Ernie Ball Slinky Cobalt Flatwounds, which are just as smooth as the body.... Awesome match up so far

I'm beyond happy with the feel of the bass, it's not too heavy, and very playable. I think there will be a few more minor improvements with a subtle tweak of the neck, but it's so dam close now....

So far I have just had a solid 2 hr practice session with it and it was comfortable and despite not being using my normal Mesa amp, i managed to find a sound that was pleasing to my ear through the amp there....

I'm really looking forward to unleashing it at a gig through my own amp.

Thanks to those of you who have assisted throughout the build, and especially to those giving positive comments recently and encouraging me to enter my first guitar build in the GOTM
