Good point Peter. Some find the best way to deal with it (on a bolt on neck guitar) is the tried and true piece of pine as a neck that you can hold works well. Trick I learned from Gavmeister is to use bolts with butterfly nuts - easy to put on and take the guitar off the new "neck".
Some will use it to hang the guitar (putting a hole in the top to slip over a hook of some form). Personal preference is a longer stick that you can stand on the ground. When you're finished, clamp it to something. That way you can get to pretty much anywhere you need to on the guitar with minimal effort.
