Good point Peter. Some find the best way to deal with it (on a bolt on neck guitar) is the tried and true piece of pine as a neck that you can hold works well. Trick I learned from Gavmeister is to use bolts with butterfly nuts - easy to put on and take the guitar off the new "neck".
Some will use it to hang the guitar (putting a hole in the top to slip over a hook of some form). Personal preference is a longer stick that you can stand on the ground. When you're finished, clamp it to something. That way you can get to pretty much anywhere you need to on the guitar with minimal effort.

If you are careful in drilling holes into your pine and shaping the section that goes into the neck pocket you can have a 'stick' that fits most bolt ons. before buying a clunky piece of wood, measure the depth of the neck pocket and either shape the stick into the pocket or slightly below it. it just makes it easier to get the paint in the hard torch spots along the pocket otherwise.

Brendan, I bought the wire brushes today and went about attacking the glue nice and hard. Happy to say that after coating the rest of the guitar, sanding it back and applying the next coat, there is absolutely no sign of the glue ever existing! Worked an absolute treat!!! I've had to buy some more colortone though, as I'm almost out of it already! The bottle was leaking a little when it arrived, and the guitar is soaking it up much faster than I expected. Only done the first coat (for highlights) and the first proper coat after that on just the body (haven't touched the neck yet as I need to cut the headstock shape) and I've got barely any left!

So, aside from all that, forgot to mention the slight alterations I'll be making to the kit. Like my last build, I'll be applying a custom decal, which I haven't decided what I want to call it yet, but I've chosen the font and colour. I also bought a set of black tuners from PBG and tonight I ordered a new black wraparound bridge and black jack input. Going for a blue and black theme obviously haha. I'm also planning to engrave the neck plate again, but haven't decided on the design for that yet either.

Hey Mike, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if you didn't acquire your Colourtone from StewMac, I would be almost 100% sure you have a crappy imitation (hence it running out).

I fell into that trap too a while back, as did pablopepper (http://www.pitbullguitars.com/commun...ewtopic&t=1262).

There is a certain Aussie based competitor of Pit Bull's who seems to be supplying shoddy gear. If it rhymes with Dee Eye Why Guitars, @$15 a bottle, I would not recommend. Watery and terrible. So, update, I have emailed them and asked for a refund on the two new bottles I ordered, so hopefully that will go through.
I'm going to pop on down to officeworks today and by some of that stamp pad ink that was suggested in the thread you linked me to west, so thanks a heap for that. Can't believe how amazing stamp ink is on a guitar! Honestly, the ideas people come up with are awesome haha. How would have thought stamp ink would produce such an awesome finish!
Anyway, I'm about to take a photo of what I did manage to get the colortone to do for me, which, surprisingly, wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, it just didn't cover much. So gimme a few minutes and a photo or two will be up!

So here's some photos of the stain so far. It's not too bad. You can see on the back where I ran out of stain, so I
ll have to sand that back a bit for when I apply the stamp pad ink, but all in all, quite happy, even if I was scammed haha. Guess that'll teach me to not buy from reputable sources!!!

Hey Mike, the stamp pad ink is the STAIN, not the finish....

You will still need to apply a finish to seal the guitar and protect it.

Yeah I realise it's a stain, got a high gloss clear spray finish for that so all good on that front!

Mike - looking great! Good choice to go back to the beginning and get those glue spots out - they seem to crop up every now and again and can be a real pain. Adam and DB have worked hard with the guys that make the kits, but sometimes one slips through.
