Classic error! Although always a positive. I may have to tap your knowledge on headstock veneers, something new to learn albeit to cover up a botch job!

It caught me out for the 1st time a few months ago, people talking to me while i am trying to drill for screws, the headstock has a bamboo skewer sticking out of it but i might veneer it.

I used to give people all sorts of grief for doing it, so dont tell anyone i did it

Such a numpty noob muppet mistake.

And no, I have never done it........

Pro tip: get a small piece of clear acrylic, drill hole then set drill bit in chuck so only 5mm sticks out through the acrylic.
You will never drill all the way through again.

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

You sound like i did up until a few months ago haha. I now use Hardened screw starters to pre-thread screw holes in wood, never miss again. I also have on my to order list a set of depth stop drill bits.

I use the thread starters too, there is an assortment of them in the StewMac Guitar Tech screwdriver set.
Those guys and a dab of wax on the screw thread and no more busted screw heads

Thanks DB, pro tip locked in! I tend to learn the 'hard way'... and I can't even blame fermented malt for this one...

    Todays classic...
I have seen 9 volt batteries, chunks of cardboard stacked up and even wood screws driven in at weird angles but never have I seen corks being used to lock a trem...
