Yhep.. It is really stupid of the state Government not to push a decent bike path system..
Perth could be a great city to cycle in if there were more dedicated bike ways that, like Canberra, actually go where they are needed.

Dunno about that, up here they keep painting cycle lanes everywhere, even up to intersections so god knows who has right of way when turning left. The lycra clad super heros think they own the road once fully adorned for their trip to the nearest coffee shop. Always riding two or more abreast when there is barely room for single file and get the sh!!ts when you drive too close. Another thing that cheeses me off about them is that they don't obey the same road rules as the rest of us. Always running Red Lights or darting across a lane when there is only the slightest gap.

Agree that dedicated bikeways like they have in Canberra is the only way to go but obviously our Governments have squandered most of their money on other useless crap instead.

Unfortunately as with any community there are a couple of idiots that ruin it for everyone. Lately have been doing a lot of outer suburbs riding - long windy single lane roads and have had pretty good car / bike interactions - couple of times though as we get closer to town we've had idiots with the top half of their body hanging out of cars to yell abuse at us while we're single file in a bike lane.

And your first statement is the biggest issue of all Waz, no one is sure about who has right of way to proceed. Here in Sydney it is the same irrespective of the type of vehicle you Ride/Drive (and in instances Pilot). The state of road craft of Cyclists and Motorists in this burg is ABYSMAL.

my previous road bike was a OCR1 would have been similar vintage or older. I clocked about 50,000km on that

I will confess that some of that gear changing was due to equipment carnage (BB's and one set of Cranks, 110kg Pacific Islanders weren't really Giant's target riding group when they designed it). I'd reckon it would still be less than half what you did with yours. (did i mention 3 trip computers? They go missing when you aren't watching and they don't like being run over.)

I am an ex NSW boy.. I grew up in Bowral so yep, I know all about dumb arse NSW Governments......

To be quite truthfull with you Franken, I dont think many things were designed for use by chunky Pacific Islanders...
When I had my Stonemasonry business going I employed two MASSIVE Maori boiz....
Those guys did twice the work of any of the other blokes but man, they could kill any piece of equipment simply by picking it up
One of the boiz weighed in at 137kg and he could pick up a stone that weighed around 150kg as if it was a feather....
He bent a 60mm hardened steel jump bar just by smacking a stone with it.. Not to mention countless numbers of 25kg rock hammer handles. I had to keep at least five spares on hand at any given time.
Powerful brutes, but gentle as lambs.

Those stories sound suspiciously like stuff my cousins would do. I remember helping a mate & his dad firewood a couple of big old pines they had to have removed. I managed to break six ax handles, including a supposedly unbreakable splitting axe handle.

haha Franken, must explain why you have had to replace so many parts on your bike.
I always remove the trip computer if I have to lock it up anywhere, takes 3 seconds

I persisted with cat eyes, but I had one die by working loose and then have the cable drag it into the wheel, and another that died as a result of an unplanned interaction with another rider. I've since switched to Garmins and gave had no issues other than remembering to keep the beggar charged.

I am much gentler with guitars, though my two year old takes a toll on them!
