Take it easy with the 0000 steel wool as it can take more off than what you realise before it is too late. Same goes for 1000, 1500 & 2000 grit when sanded wet, hence why I find 4000 & 6000 micro mesh more forgiving however it may take a bit of elbow grease before results start to appear. Better that than accidently sanding through the finish as has happened to me a few times.

And here we go, timbermate applied gap-filler style... It works for furniture, so should work for guitars, right?

    And without the tape:

We'll see how it looks tomorrow once sanded...

Hope mines a bit tighter, but that should still be ok.

    Coming along nice Fred

    Cheers Tony.
I knew from the beginning that it wasn't going to be tight. They got the angles right, but removed too much wood under the fretboard.
Hopefully this should blend in once sanded and sealed with the Aussie Oil.

    Hey,
So here we go, sanded, and with one coat Aussie Oil to join it all together:

A couple more coats and we should be good to start buffing this a bit.

Good points Waz, i only use 0000 steel wool to take out finger feel rough patches, then run a magnet over it to pick up the crud, nothing more than a wipe over really, i find the 0000 micro mesh is better and no fibres all over the place, and i can actually go a little bit harder.

Havent gone through a finish yet, but the cap on my 335/12 went very close.

Hi Tony, after finding crap in my finish after using steel wool started using a magnet too and no more problems.

Using a wet 4000 micromesh pad a lot these days as it is coarse enough to take out some rough spots but not too harsh to take too much of the extremely fine TO coats recently laid down. Imagine the Aussie Oil is similar.

Hey Fred, loving the natural colour toning and you did a great job blending that neck joint. Looks great and after a few more oil coats should blend even more.

    Cheers Tony and Waz.
I gave it another coat all over tonight. I may try hitting it with micromesh pads tomorrow. The good thing with natural finish is that even if I sanded through the oil I wouldn't take any colour out! :-)

Some sanding with micro mesh pads tonight!

    From 4000 to 12000.
Now I'll apply a few more coats of Aussie Oil and this one should be ready to assemble!
