I took the rasp to build #1 and liked the result, so I enhanced the cutaway on build #2.

Now... the body on the PRS-1TS is basswood, which is quite brown with distinct 'flecks' in the grain. THIS kit is also advertised to be a basswood body, but the two woods are quite different. Much whiter, finer grain, no 'flecks'.

PRS-1TS with basswood on bottom, PRS-1Q mystery wood on top.

I was going to just stain the back black, like build #1, but this is nice looking wood, so I'm thinking I might attempt to match the burst on the top.

So... is it basswood? Or have I scored?

I'm no expert, but basswood can be quite intriguing. Whilst typically being considered quite bland as far as woods go, it can quite often present with some interesting colouration and grain. So my guess would be that it is still basswood, but I'd be happy for one of the resident experts to weigh in and correct me.

A lot of effort here Muzza, it's looking good. I think there will be a few touch ups though.... Good luck

Progress was at a standstill. The things you do while waiting for parts and supplies...

The staining to this point is really only experimental. The real thing happens when DT MKII arrives.

I always knew that was going to be the case Stan. There were a lot of faults around the kit's binding from the start anyway. If I wasn't already planning on doing black edges, that decision would have been inevitable.

Good news is, it gave me an excuse to go out and buy a laminate trimmer. But because it's got a contoured top, I've just got to make myself an upright jig to hold the trimmer solidly at the right height.

Well, I made one of 'those' and got the rest of the binding off effortlessly.

Preparing to glue the new binding...

One thing I had to do in preparation was to partially block off the output jack hole so the router bit guide bearing wouldn't fall into it. I can just knock it out now it's done its job.
