If i cant find a problem with my eyesight or my meter, i just rewire the thing.

The output jack on some clips is a great idea, i have one set up here, it saves a lots of messing around.

When i shield a guitar i solder the pieces of copper tape together where they overlap.

If you have dimmers in your house, copper tape wont work you need aluminium.

You could try making on of these test probes. Attach the clip to the ground tab on the jack, plug the guitar into your amp and then progressively touch the bare wire on parts of the circuit. Whatever is playing on the iPod should come through your amp. As you work backwards through the circuit will get to the pace where you start to have the problems and you should be able to isolate where the issue is.

(It's worked so far for me anyway.)

Thanks for the replies everyone and some great examples of testing the wiring.

If you look on page two of my post you will see a picture of the control cavity. As I said there, I was unable to follow the wiring diagram that came with the DIY Guitars kit. I used the fred yen video online as a wiring guide. My capacitors weren't long enough to reach from the volume to the tone pots like his so I extended the length by soldering a short wire on each of their ends.

If the resolution for the cavity photo isn't suitable I can try and take another picture if that helps(soldering skills are new)?

I think it will save me allot of grief if I just try to wire everything again after I borrow a multimeter. I'll check out PBG's wiring diagram first.

    Cheers,
    Alkay.

Before you re-wire, just check that your output jack doesn't have the hot and ground connections reversed. If that's ok, then check to make sure than none of the pot lugs are shorting onto the copper shielding or stray wire strands are making a connection.
    Scott.

    Ok thanks Scott,

I'll double check the above and post again.

Interesting to note is I watched a really great video by PBG showing how to wire an LP.

The way I did it was completely different from the fred yen video. I've read there are many ways to wire but anyway I'll update soon. Thank you.

    Cheers,

    Alkay.

    Hi everyone,

Ok so I rewired the guitar using the PBG guide video for a LP. Now no sound at all when plugged in.

    I'm a bit stuck.

I would appreciate some help thanks.

    Cheers,

    Alkay.

Make sure the jack isnt wired the wrong way, even i do this sometimes when i am in a hurry, probably the most common cause of no sound.
