    Bone for tone.
    And yes, even with fretted notes bone does make a difference as there are still vibrations happening at the nut that effect the overall tone of the guitar.

    There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

    Not when its amplified, acoustically yes, plug in an you lose the lot

    Listen and watch a steel guitar player and a slide player.

    The steel player damps the strings behind the steel and most often the slide player will be undamped, the harmonic difference is enormous.
