Yeah. I really want to get looking like the LP in the top pic, a midnight blue/black burst kind of thing. Actually achieving it will be a whole other prospect:P
Then natural back and sides/neck. I love the idea of, ">insert colour here< top" type guitars.

The figure is not so unusual.
As trees grow they twist as they track the sun each day, add to this the weight of the canopy compressing the trunk and you can get figuring like flames and then quilts.
Especially when it is a real big arsed tree

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

I know very little regarding timber and the whole mechanics behind grain and figuring. That why it blows my mind when I see something different, Mother nature is definitely the winner when it comes to artwork.

All the sanding done up to 400, and the rest of the holes drilled (jack, wire, neck screws). I used tattoo ink for the top colour, black for the burst and blue (yes the actual name of the ink was "blue") for the inside. it took a fair bit of mucking round but I finally got the burst to where I'm pretty happy with it.

Had a dribble of nitro clear in a can so I used that up to seal the top colour, mainly to stop residual ink getting on the bare timber. It's kind of given a glimpse into what's gonna happen once the real clear goes on. The colour is nothing like my original concept but I think I like it even more, it almost looks like the inside of a Paua shell in the right light.
