Ok Loz, I'm not going to build it for multiple years anyway, I just want the wiring swizzles and stuff like that.... And yeah Stan has always had the same profile pic.

Also Stan, you are lucky that Tele is a lefty otherwise it wouldn't be yours anymore.... It would be a lot closer to Melbourne than you think.... Hehehheehehe...

thanks Lozza and Overlord Pest, I like it a lot. My first (and only really) expensive, factory axe.
Oh, and it runs through a 1974 Fender Twin Reverb.... (worth more than the guitar), bought them together (used) , should learn to play...

Mmmmmmmm.... 74 TR and 80's Tele.... Sounds tasty! I've played an 82 Tele, they are so nice to play! I now understand why Adam loves them so much!

ok Lozza after the mini thread jack are you going to tell us more about the plans and progress of this build ?
Myself and Weirdy have one of these kits waiting to start and are very insterested what you plan to do.
Think I'll put a bigsby trem on mine.
As for colour will probably get DB to mix a custom DT colour.
Then hopefully get some wiring options from you Lozza or Weirdy, so many possible configurations !

Mmmm....Bigsby. I have Bigsby B70 on mine and it works great. Surely a trem and some Filtertrons are the go! Personally I have GFS Nashville's and I love 'em (sorry DB!).

    cheers,
    Gav.

    It's done.

OK, I know I'm as slack as when it comes to posting updates. In fact, I think it's been about six months since I actually added anything to this thread. However, I finished the build just yesterday. Overall, it went together pretty smoothly with only a bit of neck fitting really needing attention. So, apart from that, I don't really have anything to report in the way of dilemmas. But just so you know what has been done, here is the build as it happened.

I wanted a natural look, so I used Tru-Oil, a total of 15 coats. I was a bit uncertain about using it for the first time but having done it now I actually quite like the stuff.

The standard pickups were replaced with Zebras from GFS: they are Alnico V and they sound amazing. They can be fat, clean, crisp or a bit dirty depending on what you want. Absolutely love them.

I replaced the supplied black knobs with some gold/transparent ones to match the colour of the body.

I also installed a different truss rod cover. I had one made out of Rosewood with 'Lawry' inlaid in mother-of-pearl. It adds a nice classy finish to a classy jazz guitar.

I decided not to use the pick guard because it somehow detracted from the overall aesthetics in my opinion.

Finally, I strung her up with the D'Addario Chromes. They give a really nice smooth, fat sound and slippery feel for playing jazz.

When I get some spare time I'll make a small video so you can hear how she sounds (yeah, I know, I'm retired so I should have spare time galore. But that ain't the case, I'm too busy having fun).

Anyway, here are some of the progress pictures.
    Cheers.

welcome back Lozza seems like eternity since you been on the forum

stunning build mate, and DB says each coat of TO is a month in the naughty warehouse so that's 15 months mate.

how was the wiring through the F hole pretty straight forward ?

love the truss rod cover, who made that ?

best you enter December GOTM !
