Thread: "Starcaster" Build

    Thanks Wokka.

Yeah, the neck looks awesome right now with the sparkles (with about 3 coats). Exactly the look I wanted.

I don't know if it's because the neck is a little lighter than the body, smaller or if it's because it's become glossy faster because the wood is more dense. I am hoping for the latter because I'd be totally chuffed if the whole body turns out like that.

yeah the maple neck is more dense and has a finer grain than the body so that's probably the reason. Nice work

I'm liking the way the lighter lines in the flame cap make it look a bit like a time lapse pic of the night sky

    Thanks guys,

Yeah it turned out pretty sweet. But unfortunately I made the silly assumption that all post-mounted bridges would be the same distance - you know, market capitalisation and all that.

    Turns out I was wrong.

Now I need to trade a bridge with someone - or drill the body, which I don't want to do (even though it would be invisible... Thing is, I don't want a bridge with a tail piece and I don't know of any bridges with the smaller spacing size (73mm instead of 82mm or whatever this is) which have an integrated stop piece that isn't wrap around.

Anyone know of any? I only know of this one (schaller 755) and others with the same facing like hipshot baby grand.

I've contacted Adam to ask him about the bridge spacing of the gold one from PBG, to make sure that it's my bridge that I ordered incorrectly - and not the kit itself (in which case I'll just get it drilled and use this bridge).

... Can I get some advice on whether it's worth or doable to add second post holes? I think they will overlap slightly but yeah... I don't actually want a separate stop piece and I already have this bridge (selling it may be a pain). So I dunno what to do. I don't really have the tools to drill a super straight hole that is required for these posts for a tail piece so I dunno what to do exactly.

Nah mario, the tailpiece is narrower than the bridge, hence why it is off in your kit!

Beaten to it while i was looking for a pic. Callum is dead on. You will have to redrill no matter what type of one piece bridge you use as the holes you are using are for the bridge and not the tail piece.

That is an absolutely killer bridge, one of my favourites going around. And Alumitones too! This thing is gonna kick some serious booty.

plug and redrill, mate. Use that nice bridge.

I am sure there is someone from the PBG family not too far who might be able to help.... Or any woodshop with a drill press

Silly me. I need to work out if I'd rather use a separate bridge/tailpiece now instead of this one since I'd have to drill for both.

Does anyone nearby have a drill press who can help me? I'm happy to do just about any drilling free hand - but I think this is one thing that has to be near-exactly perpendicular, and that's something I am real bad at free hand.
