Thanks Guys, the encouragement I get in these Forums is ALWAYS greatly appreciated. Going away from a traditional "Fend.." headstock was a surprisingly difficult decision. But now the decision has been made I will be sticking with it.

    @ Woks
The stain is FW Golden Teak Prooftint. To keep it as light as possible I only applied one coat. But as usual the Naughty Oil has darkened it a fair bit and I'm only halfway through the coats. By the time I'm finished it will be a long way from Butterscotch and closer to amber I suspect. Not what I was going for, but it will do.

    @ Stan
I feel your pain as I have found that buying anything for a lefty is a frustrating exercise and expensive. But on the positive side I'm sure I have a left-handed screwdriver laying around that is no use to me, so if I find it, it's yours .

    @ Gav
Thanks mate, I don't know about amazing. As usual I see flaws in it everywhere, but I guess we are always our own worst critic. If Bret is happy with it I'll be satisfied.

    @ Rob
Thanks mate, certainly a bit of a departure from my usual "copy cat" approach.

    Cheers Guys

nice one Rob I've used FW golden teak it is a nice colour. Your right though 15+ coats of naughty oil will darken it a fair bit.
Sure it will still look awesome the colour !
Keen to see some more photos, the fret dot marker I can see looks great.
Did you drill the string through holes with a hand drill ? Nervous moments !

    @ Andrew
Thanks mate, so far so good.

    @ Woks
I forgot to mention earlier that I grain filled with Jarrah Timbermate, which gave the body a slightly darker hue to begin with.

I've done a couple of guitars now with Abalone dot markers. Although at first I wasn't sold on them, now when I go back to my earlier builds with maple fretboards the black plastic dots just look a little "cheap".

    AARRGGHH string through holes!!! lol.
My other ongoing project (Lyn #10) was a test case for hand drilling string through holes. I bought some nice new (read sharp) drill bits and the first hole I tried the bit just grabbed, and well, I guess you can figure out the outcome.

For Bret's guitar we used his floor standing drill press, much better but still not perfect. The top doesn't matter so much as they will be covered by the TL bridge plate, but the rear ferrule holes will need a tad of work to get them better aligned.

My guitar (#10) is so bad I may even get a ferrule bar if I can be bothered. But then again no one sees the back do they? When I'm playing it the back looks perfect to me lol.

    cheers guys

Looks great Rob, as usual. I've always wondered, do the PBG lefty kits come with C reverse taper log pots or just the standard A's? And, do lefties want to turn their pots clockwise like a righty or counter-clockwise to match the lefty guitar?

oh ok yeah the jarrah grain fill will darken it a little.
The abalone dot markers do look sweet on the maple fingerboard. Might try that tip.
Bummer about what happened to Lyn #10, I'd get a plate for the strings on the back to cover the tear out.
I agree not many people see the back of the axe but we all still seem to give the back as much attention as the front !

Not to worry Rob, there will be a couple of PitBulls there to carry the flag on the jam night I will probably take the ST & PBH and I think Shane will take his TL.

You missed Collingrove in 2011, Lakeside in 2013 and will miss Winton this year I'm a pensioner and plan / save for both the nationals and the 4 or 5 rounds of FOSC each year, it can be done ( understanding wife helps )

Hi Scott, I'm not sure about the standard PBG pots because I have bought lefty CTS pots. They're not that expensive, and I have found from experience that the taper is far more useable in the CTS's.
