I think the Shellac based sanding sealer allows the stain to penetrate into the wood. It is meant to help with reducing blotchy uptake of stain, and reduce the stain darkness on end grain.Originally Posted by fender3x
Some other Sanding Sealers I have tried will not take any stain. Great if you want natural colours.
