Thanks heaps for giving me a diagram for this, that would have been my next question.

The pickup I have is a DiMarzio humbucker from hell that has four wires and a ground instead of two, am I correct in assuming that I solder the black and white wires together?

Don't the black and white wires come presoldered?

+ the black and white solder join will need to be insulated (with electrical tape or similar) to ensure it cannot become grounded.

Not on DiMarzios. Toneriders (which use the same wire colours) do. DiMarzio instructions say to solder the black and white wires together and insulate the join.
