It would be worth giving it a wipe down with some white spirit / turps (or whatever you call it there ;-) to see how it might look with a neutral finish.
I've done a build with a "walnut" burl top, which looks similar. I was originally planning on a stain, but on good advice received here, decided not to, and ended up finishing with Tru Oil only. It came out quite a gold colour in the end.
