you can see that even with a bit more care, re-fretting an engineered board probably isn't going to work.

I've done a couple of them with no problems so far.
Not the best material to work with but it can be done.

I think it may come down to the individual boards. Lack of consistency in manufacture means that some will be good, some not so good.
