Oh yeah I know, I have come at this hobby from restoring cars, I'm just having trouble locking down a stylistic direction for this. It's like having a nice big blank canvas and having no idea what to paint. I keep changing my mind. At any rate, it's too cold and windy to spray here at the moment so I'm doing some other aspects of the build. You can see there is quite a ways to go getting all the curves and stuff looking nice enough for paint. The laminated oak board is a pain in the arse as some of the bits are a lot softer than others and there is heaps of endgrain so sanding nice and flat (or curved) is a bti of a challenge.

Some pics, hopefully I'll have the pick guard worked out today.

    Got my screws and ferrules

    Lining it all up

Screws in the bridge and control plate and some real strings to confirm its all good.

I'm going to suggest a direct mount SC in the neck. Black or chrome covered to add accent and match the T style bridge.

It will be a single coil - probably white as I have one handy. I haven't actually routed properly to do a direct mount/no pickguard setup. It could probably be modded I suppose and I see what you are saying. I actually debated a chrome surround vs buying the pickguard blank. I just like pickguards TBH. When I get around to doing a carve top version of the Deluxester I'll do it as a no pick guard version

Did you see the earlier post re the plans? PM me your email and I'll send you a copy to have a look over.

I thnik this needs a pickguard. If it had a figured maple top for instance, then I think that direct mount and no guard would work.

Yeah, maybe if I do flashy finish a direct mount could work. Pickguard mostly sorted now, like everything on the guitar it just needs some fine tuning/patient sanding.

I love it. I can see the inspirations and heritage, but your body shapes and headstock still have their own personality.

Great to hear, for something you pick up and hold in your hands, it's the details that make it when it comes to guitar build IMO.
