I'd give it a good chance to settle down. I've redone the setup a couple of times on the shoegazer over the last couple of months and it gets better each time. I have a tiny amount of buzz and very low action on it now. And I'm running 9's so I pretty much expect some buzz. I have a pack of 10's to go on eventually, but its really playable now (not that it was ever terrible)

I want to change the pick up arrangement and do some other mods on it now. I was happy with them initially, but its a bit underwhelming compared to some of my other guitars in terms of output.

Yeah, the output on these P90s is pretty low. I think the multimeter read them at like 4.5k o.0

I am trying to decide what to replace them with...

I also finally pulled out the nut.. it was glued in so tight that I mangled the nut getting it out, so just outta curiosity I tried another nut I had laying around. Filed about a mm off the bottom and the action is stunning. I mean, I still have some buzz, but it’s not that noticeable into my pedals etc. I’ll need to replace it, it was from a neck with binding, so it’s a weird fit (not wide enough, etc), but playability wise. Wow.

It’s funny, my hope for this guitar was a fun project and maybe I’d tune it to EAEAAE and use it for a couple songs.. but it’s turned out nice enough that I wanna keep messing with it till it’s ready to be my main. This has been very surprising.

I could get a fret level, but that would cost more than a new neck unless I got a really nice neck

OK. I have been playing it and tweaking the set up and pickup height etc for a couple of days now... and I am ready to call it.

The guitar is done.

I am sure I will upgrade bits on it like the pickups and maybe even the neck at some point... but as far as a build diary of this kit... it's COMPLETE.

I am VERY happy overall. I actually like playing it as much or more than my heavily modded Squier VM Jaguar. I think it will probably end up my main guitar, which considering I have the two Squire Offsets, a Gibson Les Paul Studio, an amazing Greco Rickenbacker 360 lawsuit, and an Italia Baritone... that is saying something.

The paint is thin... impatience will do that, but considering I like reliced guitars, I just figure it will get naturally reliced faster

I think my next kit will either be a JM-1 or an FS-1. I know I can't manage the soldering for an FS-1, but I would probably use a GFS wiring harness on it anyway... since I wouldn't want humbuckers, etc.

Anyway... thanks everyone for the encouragement and help... it's been a fun journey.

You should be leveling the frets and re-capping them anyway. They are not level from the factory I believe. It’s part of the building a guitar experience.
