Hi Fred, nice choice. Same ones installed in my EX-5.

Check out these links for how I did the coil splits...

    http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au...ead.php?t=6476

Edit: For Simon's benefit, Bensons arrived with no wiring diagrams whatsoever and a multi meter was used to figure out what went where. On first attempt wired one split coil the wrong way around which is what you are supposed to do on a guitar humbucker but that PUP sounded awful whilst the other one was sweet. Simply swapped where the red & green wires were to match the better sounding PUP and all good.

Emailing and complaining to the manufacturer, who actually is a guest on this forum, is probably not the best way to get desired results when a small amount of basic tinkering can suffice.

Fred, if you need more info let me know and I can open up the EX-5 if required to refresh my memory. Couple of shots attached taken for Ozzie to help him on his TB4 recently...

    Cheers Waz.

So you used the same wiring for both pups then correct?
White is hot, black ground and red/green middle that gets shorted to ground when in single coil mode.

Sorry, Waz, but if a manufacturer fails to provide basic information either with the product or back on their website, then I'd certainly email them. Of course it's the best way!

With a multimeter, you can only work out which two wires go to a coil, and you can't work out what is the start and finish wire of each coil without resorting to an oscilloscope and looking at waveforms. Even I don't have an oscilloscope so would have to result to empirical testing, which I really don't think should be necessary on a brand new item. If I'd got a pickup from eBay for $10 then fine, but not with a new boxed unit.

Failing to give your customers basic information about the product isn't clever at all and such manufacturers need to be told that for their own good as they are actively driving prospective customers away.

Hi Fred, sounds right. Just opened it up and white goes to switch which is supposed to be hot wire. Red & Green remain paired together and go on middle left of push pull switch and ground goes on bottom left. If there was a bare 5th wire that could have been wrapped or paired with black, they both go to ground. I used side of pot and ran a separate thinner wire back to bottom left lug on push pull as there was not a lot of space to fix 2 wires.
Conventional wiring would simply require red & green to be kept paired and exposed ends insulated with heat shrink or electrical tape.

With a 'Can do' attitude many things are possible.
Flip side is glass half empty when most things seem impossible.
Which category do you fit in?

I'm with Waz on that one. Don't think it's such a big deal.
The pickup construction is very good from what I can see and that's more important.

Thanks Waz for confirming the cabling you did. I'll see when I can swap in these bad boys!

    I'm with Simon.
Banging your fist on the counter often pays dividends.

Imagine Ikea supplying the furniture with no assembly instructions.
    How hard can it be?

    cheers, Mark.

Hey Chaps, I'll check tomorrow when I'm back at the Warehouse, I think Benson's do come with a diagram.

It may be that if you ordered a single pickup, which we took from a box set, then we forgot to include the diagram, which is our fault. If it was a set then the diagram was missing.

No problem getting more e-copies from John, which we can print out here and send with the pups.
    Cheers,

    Adam
