Ok, little update.
I stained the headstock so it would look similar to the body. I did some more layers but I feel I need to do some more. Anyway, the topic is worthless without pics!
As you can see the grain is hard to fill with the stain and perhaps I should have been better off using a filler. Well, add this to the list 'Lessons learned'

It took me a few projects to learn about the wisdom of grain filler too. Finishing a couple of my current projects are more work than they need to be because of that oversight. Oh well.Originally Posted by Kick
