I've been relatively lucky not to have come across gluelines in my guitar builds.

    Thanks Simon.

Number 1 rule?? Is that the one about the number of guitars owned or how loud you play??

Thats one of the factors Causing me angst with the Cliche LP build. Unbidden Flamed Veneer with ZERO glue issues.

I had a couple on the EXA-1 which basically had to be wire brushed off, and they weren't so bad but id hate it with a nice quilted or flamed top. You'd have to be so very careful in treating it.

Simon, I hope you are writing a book, encyclopedia or bible with all your knowledge. Thanks for your contributions and willingness to share your experiences.

Seems like there are a wealth of ideas to match the wealth of dangers with thin veneers. I will just have to save and wait till I see the next build land on my doorstep.

    Thanks everyone for the help.

Frankie, I see you see what I see. Just hate to destroy a nice top then have to go with a solid colour.....although a goldtop?? Hmmm.

Yeah, never been a huge gold top enthusiast, though they do look schmick. Its having seen Depicted minds LP come up so well with that dark burst that drives a nail into the Blacked out LP plan.
No rush on that though, i still have an EXA-1 to finish and the SV-1 before I have to find something else to do. (---and The Frankenwashie resurrection, and a Baritone Scratchie and a naked TLA....)

Hi buddy, I have used Goof Off on a couple of builds and mostly on my Blue Flame top Tele which had a few stubborn ones where I ended up using a wire brush.

BIG CAUTION - wire brushing can dig deeper grooves than you realise and best to keep persisting with multiple applications of Goof Off. It has an almost Acetone smell and dissolves the blue rubber gloves after a while so best not to get the stuff on your bare skin and reckon it might even melt away your top coats around the area you are trying to fix.

Under GOTM I suggested a thin black line on decal transfer paper and thinking more about it using a dark blue as close to the stain colour might work better on transfer paper. Downside is that it would require a few more clear top coats to hide the edges of the decal transfer.

N+1 rule of guitars about how many guitars you need to own at any point in time, where N=current number of guitars owned. Always just one more.

I tend to work on the theory that you actually need at least N+1 guitars in your collection so that you don't then end up with N non-functional guitars due to such things as broken strings and etc, but then you also need to factor-in Entropy (Randomness) too, this can take the form of having to play a gig at short-notice, or a mate needs to borrow a guitar from you cause his band is playing at his sister's wedding, or some other special occasion, and his guitar is currently being worked on due to some random reason.

The same theory could be applied to things like sets of strings (it's a pain when you break one, or more, of the strings on your guitar and you don't have any more spares, and the music shop is closed cause it's Sunday afternoon), even amps are not immune to the above theory, something as mundane as a 9V battery is also subject to the above theory as well, basically when deciding how many of a certain thing you need, always err on the side of one extra.
