I'm planning to leave them in relief. Didn't think of filling them over actually... I'm going to think about that.
I was thinking i'll seal everything with gloss acrylic once i've weathered it. But I need to test that the white knight acrylic will work on the rust-oleum paint.
But if someone's got good suggestions for a better way of sealing this I'd love to hear about it!
With the weathering, I went to Hobbycos yesterday and the very knowledgeable sales guy sold me some very cool products I think!
The weathering kits are semiwet material that you apply with a small brush, similar to make up.
And the small jar is a smoke colour transparent acrylic. He said it looks a lot more realistic than watered down black paint.
I feel like I'm 16 and working on some jet fighter or tank model again!![]()

Did some painting on the neck yesterday:
Removed the masking tapes from the headstock. Need some clean up and fine details but pretty happy so far!
The aluminum paint looks amazing but i'm not sure how the gloss clear is going to impact...

That'll do the kessel run in 12 parsecs. your boy will be the talk of school. Very creative awsome
That reminds me...I've got a Focke Wolf FW 190-A6 lurking in one of the unpacked boxes that needs finishing. Will have to squeeze that in between guitar builds.
I was merely curious about the fill, if you are going to go over the whole thing with spray acrylic then you probably don't need it.
Depending how deep down the rabbit hole you want to go you could always get a sheet of panel edge decals and lay those in around the inserts to simulate hull panels on the Falcon. Or you can etch/draw those in separately.

Panel edge decals???? Oh no! I didn't know they existed... where do you find these?

I'm thinking I've put you on a bum steer here! this is R2 in guitar avatar form not the Falcon! I had in mind the Hull panels etc, for which there are a bunch of resources on the modelling nets. These were the decals I had in mind:
Apologies, my bad!
