How about a one piece mini aluminium plate pickguard, just big enough to cover the pickup rout that extends down covering the wire rout and becomes the control plate. A bit of effort to make, but may work. I'd try a few different style and colour pickguard mockups in Photoshop/Gimp and see what works.
