again - a 'merge of the Telecaster headstock and the Epiphone batwing...

I'm also building a jig to align the neck to a centreline... so as to put that centreline onto the body blank - as well. as to place the middle screw for the bridge. etc

I'nm still thinking of a white "transparent" colour - using the Whittles colour with a roller did help it a bit..... but I'm now thinking to use it more as atint rather than a stain......
What a cool idea! Not a copy of the Epi, but a clear tribute.

I'm now wondering if I should stain the face of the headstock the same as the body...to highlight the "batwing" against the backside outline of a "fat Tele headstock" shape.....

I've ordered a TV Jones Classic Plus pickup (it's nickel and everything else is chrome - but I hope it looks ok anyway), and a Gotoh GTC102-010 hardtail bridge.

+1 for a contrast from the headstock and the contoured batwing. There are lots of headstock examples with stain contrasted with natural sections online, and they look great.

In my last st-1 build I did a dark painted contour section against the coloured headstock. Check out:

    PitBull Builds: FVB-4, LP-1SS, FBM-1, AG-2, TB-4, SSCM-1, TLA-1,TL-1TB, STA-1HT, DSCM-1 Truckster, ST-1, STA-1, MBM-1, MBM custom, GHR-1 (Resonator), FH-5V (Acoustic), DMS-1 (Mustang).

Scratch Builds: Pine Explorer, Axe Bass, Mr Scary, Scratchy Tele's.

The little voices in my head keep telling me "build more guitars"

Very nice - the contrast really does work.
I was also thinking of making just the "outside" of the headstock the same as the body - but fell into an internal argument over "where to stop" when it meets the neck proper.... then I thought of "superimposing" the batwing by using the scoops - which would define where the colour goes...... then I thought of making the headstock face the same colour as the body instead.

So while I'm still thinking of colouring the face - there is also that option of simply colouring the "scoops" that suggest the bat wing.....

Or you could color the face and not the scoops...

I like TD's idea. With so many choices, why choose. Just build'em all ;-)
