    A Kind of Telecasterish build

Haven't been here much for a few years. This is part of the reason. Its taken much longer than it should have. A mix of fun and frustrating. The biggest problem is I often had to leave it weeks between build sessions, in which time the timber would warp! Maybe I should stick to solid bodies.

The body is, obviously, all mine. The top is spruce from the local luthier supply shop. Bracing is all cedar except for the bridge plate, which is rosewood. The sides are 2mm meranti plywood, and the back is sapele from a boat I bought 40 years ago! The neck is a stratocaster copy secondhand from Simon, but I altered the headstock to make it more telecaster like. The finish is tru-oil.

It does sound vaguely like an acoustic guitar, albeit very quiet and with little bass end. What I expected and was aiming for really. Is got a ghost piezo pickup system in the bridge. I decided it could live without any knobs because its only for home use.

Nice to see you, Jim! At the rate my builds go, you won't see me casting any aspersions for going a bit long. Particularly when you get an outcome like that. It looks fantastic. I particularly like the rosette! Also really like the way the woods contrast. You'd never know that *was* a strat neck without looking at the heel. How do you like the way it sounds with the piezo?

My favorite build got started with a donated neck ;-) Glad to hear you're still in touch with Simon!

I thought it looked familiar, it all came back to me when I followed the link. I guess I had just forgotten the hole thing ;-)
