Ok thanks for that!
Haha what's your definition of cheeky?

Haha yes I think most flats here look very similar!
Some updates - my black hardware have arrived from China. I already sprayed the neck plate black and finished all the coats. Now I'll have to wait 2 weeks (or maybe 1 if I'm impatient) before assembly. Can't wait!
I've finally come to the end of my guitar build. I'm both sad but happy at the same time. I spent a lot of time and this was my first but great things await the following builds with the skills I picked up along the way.

holy carp Simon for a first scratch body/neck build you hit it right out of the park. That looks like a build from a professional luthier mate. I am about to check out the youtube vid, sure it plays and sounds great.
And I have to wait 30s between posts!

Thanks wokka! There are some areas where I made some mistakes but these mistakes are meant to be learned from! I was kinda surprised I actually was able to do this. Has been my dream for many years!
It plays and sounds like a dream! Will make a video of the sound soon!
Btw where can I get one of those holy carps?
sure you have learnt heaps Simon. Cool video, I was hoping to see a big shoutout to your famous 'safety boots' hahah
can't wait to hear/see a sound demo
have a look on ebay for holy carps mate ! haha
what are the pickups again and what bridge is that ?
I think this build should inspire other forumites who have built a few kits to attempt a scratchy
Haha I found a pair of basketball shoes which I never wear so I'll probably be using those next time. Also winter is coming and my toes can't stand the cold.
The pickups are Tonerider AC2 in the bridge and neck (great sounding pups) and a Kent Armstrong Dual Blades in the middle. The KA doesn't sound very good because it's a mini humbucker, so I may change it to a true single coil in the future. The bridge is a Gotoh style tremolo by RealTone.
Wow Simon. That is just a fantastic build. I admire your dedication and patience with this build. Clearly you learned a lot as you went along.
I watched all of your videos today, thanks very much for posting them. Now we know what we will be in for if we attempt a scratch build.
Thanks Simon. It may be a while away...got a few kits on the go already.
I really want to attempt a tele build, and I'm considering winding the pups as well. learning learning learning.
Its really the neck that scares me the most.....but I'll give pine a crack first!
Awesome build! Awesome diary as well! Thanks for bringing us along! Im nearing the end of my SG scratch build (body only though... too scared of necks!) Cant wait to check out your video....

mega cool build of much and great excellentness...
superb build mate, this is an excellent guitar, well done
Noice.
Now stop dancin around and get back in the shed and build another one 😊
The thought of carving a neck is what does my head in.
But how does she play Simon? She is a work of art, you must be proud.
Thanks for all the kind comments everyone! I'm very happy with it despite some areas that can be improved! I'm a perfectionist but I've learned to live with mistakes and deal with being human. :D
@DB: Gotcha! I've already planned my next two builds. It's a disease!!!
@Fretworn: It plays like a dream. I carved the neck thin enough to my liking and the wipe-on-poly finish makes it very smooth unlike if I were to use lacquer.
@Davey and Muzza: Necks are scary but they're super rewarding once it's done. Fortunately my neck hasn't snapped for the past 2 days it's being strung up!
hey Franken, isn't it your birthday soon ? bwhahahahha
Very inspiring. It's something you should be proud of.
Thanks Franken! Wokka, sorry it's also my birthday everyday haha.
Thanks Dedman!
What a scratch build, love it. And also thanks for the YouTube video diaries. Enjoyed watching them.
Thanks Andrew!
I'm in the process of uploading the demo videos. I must say once again Tonerider never fails to impress. The AC2 in the bridge and neck sound really sweet. The coil splits make it sound like a traditional strat too.

got some chops buddy! Sounds amazing!
wow Simon I am impressed at the sound and your playing. Thought the distorted video was out of sync. Very cool tunes you played, great variety, Little Wing, Panama Van Halen, waiting for the bus ZZ top, AC/DC shook me all night long.
You have such a wide variety of playing styles. Very slick playing indeed and you can say you built the whole axe from scratch
very inspiring mate !
Spectacular range of tones there. What an amazing guitar!
Thanks everyone. Yes you can really get a lot of tones out of it. Very versatile guitar, although I'm really considering swapping out the middle mini humbucker for a single coil...
Kudos to you wokka for spotting those tunes I sloppily played haha.
Wow, what a versatile axe, great job
Btw, if anyone is interested in seeing my entire video build diary, check it out here:

I've since swapped the Kent Armstrong Dual Blades in the middle for an Entwistle AS57. It now sounds sweet and I can get strat sounds by coil splitting. Very versatile axe!
