Unfortunately no good clean fun to be found, Tones. Everything in my garage is now covered is now covered in craft herpes (more commonly known as glitter). It's EVERYWHERE!!! And that's before I start sanding.

That sucks pabs, I feel your pain mate. I've been waiting 3 months for some acrylic clear to cure properly. Is it cured, finger push test, leaves mark in paint, no! Sand a bit more , and wait a bit more...
Finally had an afternoon under 30 degrees and around 60% humidity, so got the clear coat on. I wasn't 100% convinced about using satin acrylic, but it has turned out magically.

Not the easiest to see in this photo, but believe me, it looks very nice and I am well pleased. Finally some actual progress. And the beauty of a satin finish, no more bloody sanding. Wait for it to cure and she's freaking done.
Ah, don't need to stress anymore...
Nice one Pabs, this has come up a treat
Looking real nice Pabs, i am packing it in for the day, everything i touch turns to a funny brown colour, cant win a trick.
Cheers guys. Tony, the reverse Midas. I know it all too well...
Satin looks awesome pabs, single coat?
Ta, bro. 5 coats mate.
That looks nice Pabs. The satin has turned out a treat.
I have no idea what that even refers to, Muz.
I think steel wool. A lot of steel wool contains oils to enhance shelf life. Maybe some liquid detergent then dry it out thoroughly (but maybe this will cause it to rust..)?
Wash steel wool??
Why would you even bother?
Only has to get slightly damp and it rusts.........
also steel wool ignites very easy near grinders I found out !
@ Pabs tele looks unreal, glad your patience has paid off. Hows the front look similar to the back ?
should look a treat orange and black hardware. Is the neck curing now as well ?
No problemo DB, just use a brillo pad, steel wool pad impregnated with soap!

Ponch is that what you clean the Kwakka with ? must be getting a bit of rust on the chrome a 1980's Kwakka ? haha
@ Pabs, sorry for the thread jack but you know how it is !
Like I care, Woks. Neck has been ready to go for ages.
haha no worries Pabs, I remember once BassGuy told us to back off the thread jacking so thought other bass players maybe like him haha
I know u are good about thread jackers Pabs !
Any progress Pabs?
Haha, yeah mate. She's together, but I'm not satisfied with the results.

The clear coat has started lifting and chipped in a few places, so I'm gonna refinish it completely. But for now, I've lost interest. Too many things have gone wrong.
Bummer..
Now you know why I wont use acrylic finish on Guitars. For some reason it just never works properly 😩
shame pabs, it looks great, i am still waiting for acrylic to cure on two jobs myself, wont be using it again...
Looks rad Pabs. For my own guitars I just like to use oils and stains.
... going to completely go against that for my next build though. :D
Fair nuff mate. Thanks for posting. I still think it looks good but I understand the want to re-finish and stalling for some inspiration. I really do luv that headstock shape though, its mad. and the black hardware and black bell knob looks great.
You never know you might get some inspiration to re-veneer it and re-bind it yourself after you've had a breather.
Back from the dead! Thread revival.
After sitting in a cupboard in pieces for 2 years, the time has come. Actually, I only just worked up the gusto to sand all the old finish off. Not fun.

About a week of not fun as it turned out.
Finally ready for some colour.

Took a couple of goes to get the shade right, but satisfied now. Of course this highlighted the small amount of orange left in the end grain that was basically invisible before. Not the end of the world, but I might end up going a bit darker around the edges to see if I can hide that a little more.
Oooooh looks nice (I liked the orange look as well though, shame it didn't finish very well)
snap! Nice colour.

Nice! Total bummer you had to do all that sanding, but that blue is pretty great so it was clearly worth it
Ah sanding....we know sanding.....
Love the rebirth
Three weeks of heat in the shed was enough to fully cure the clear coat, but it was very orange peely. Friday afternoon, sporadically though saturday and then sunday morning was spent wet sanding through the grits. 800, 1000, 1200 and then 1500.
That's when I sanded through and knocked off some blue.

Bugger.
Oh well, it's just a little, I'll push on...then it happened again... Oh well, it's the back and it's not that bad. Then it happened again....on the front.
I give up. I swear this build is cursed. I might consider the dreaded relic option, but I hate that idea. I might end up stripping it right back (for the 4th time!!!!) and starting again or I might just bash my head into a wall until I pass out. Either way...
Townshended:D
Love it.
Argh bugger!
I've done that on a couple of edges on my 330 build. Despite knowing that edges are always vulnerable and to be very careful. I enlisted my set of coloured Sharpies (I got mine off eBay). There's normally a colour very close to your finish and by applying and smudging, then wiping with a cloth (and sometimes applying and blending two colours), I've done some fully acceptable running repairs rather than have to get the stain out and try and stain a very small bit of the finish. You'll still have to clear coat again, but that's only a matter of time and waiting.
Bummer Pabs, I feel your pain having done the same several times on various builds.
When sanding back on a car I'd normally tape any edges and transitions and concentrate on the flat or larger areas. The edges buff up on their own once you start with the cutting compound. Might be worth trying next time.
