Simon...very interesting. I've done a twin humbucker guitar and have the no volume problem. Where can I get a kinman wiring diagram?
The 'Kinman' mod is just wiring the bleed capacitor and resistor in series instead of parallel. Different people have different ideas on the optimum cap and resistor value, but a 0.001uF/1pF capacitor and a 130k ohm 1/4 watt resistor seem to be the most popular.
In the diagram below, the first option is simply a capacitor, which works but can lead to the tone getting a lot brighter as the volume is reduced. The second is a capacitor and resistor in parallel, which is the Seymour Duncan/StewMac/PBG kit version, whilst the third is the capacitor and resistor in series and is often known as the 'Kinman' version.

I tried the second one on a Strat I rewired recently and that worked nicely, but the Kinman version would work better on a two-volume control guitar. Wazkelly found out with a Jazz Bass (where there is no selector switch and both pickups are permanently in circuit), that the standard treble bleed kits caused the volume drop-out when one pickup volume was turned right down (to select either just the bridge or neck pick-up), which caused me to start looking into these things.
There is a lot of stuff out there on the web about these bleed circuits, and there are quite a lot of variations on values, plus more alternative circuits, some of which seem rather OTT, in search of technical perfection.
that's a nice shine there dedman theirs some work in that body smooth as a baby bum
couldn't resist a partial mock up while getting ready to do some wiring

Fingers! Very nice.
Very you, Dedman. It "looks" like the kind of music you like to listen to.
What a right pain in the butt getting that wiring in through those tiny f holes. glad I went with mini pots! I called them f'n holes a fair bit! Much eaiser on the full size axes. But to my surprise even after all the twisting and turning it passed the "tap" test first time round. Tuners, a clean up of the fret board to get the masking tap glue off and strings tomorrow!
I have to say that since buying a decent soldering station my wiring has improved 100%. Again thanks Doc for the advice on what to buy
No idea what you mean

strung and playing :D hangin out with its cuz.
Will leave it for a week, another polish, restring with good strings (Chinese on atm) and will tidy the wiring now that I know it all works correctly. May sand a little bit more off the base of the bridge as well

Looking great, Dedman.
What's it sound like? Has it got much of a semi-acoustic nature to it?
Damn Deddy, you do make a great guitar.
Great looking guitar Dedman, as always!
My one issue with these hollow body guitars is how difficult they must be to paint on the inside. This is obviously why people don't seem to to do it I guess!
Any finish on the inside of a guitar seems to be frowned upon and simply not done. There's nothing stopping acoustic guitars having finish applied to the insides during construction, but it rarely happens, even though it would help make them less vulnerable to temperature and humidity changes.
Maybe a paint finish is too reflective and makes the guitars sound too harsh? Though on something with F-holes, you need only spray the area below the F-hole, and you could always spray a stain, which won't add any extra sound reflections.
great looking guitar dedman that tailpiece looks incredible.
Thanks guys
Simon, nearly no acoustics at all, the centre block is pretty wide (enough that a conventional bridge and tail piece would fit) so the cavities are tiny.
Zandit, the biggest prob is keeping the paint OUT, I did slop a bit of timbermate in when I was prepping and it soaked in, I'll make a label like I did on the ES5 and use it to cover my error :P
Yeah, I've seen some top end luthiers use a finish on the inside, but like you said, it's pretty rare. I just seems to stand put more on electrics with F holes, especially when they have painted finished, or coloured stains.
Understood Dedman, A label should look good!
Done! More pics in GOTM thread

Top marks Dedman, just superb. Love the art deco feel to it.
As said in GOTM; wow!! :)
So what's wrong with the inlay? You mentioned in the GOTM post "Never Again!"
Was it just a hard job, or did you have issues?
Had a few issues, had to cut it out twice after bending it accidentally, thinking I had it flat until it was in place. Stainless is much harder to work with than the brass I had used on the last one. Lots of clear coats filled a few errors LOL
Ahhh, that would certainly explain it. Nothing worse that having something fight you the entire way!
You've done a great job there, Dedman, well done.
(Can I just point out that the selector switch surround looks slightly wonky to me in that pic, so might lose you a few points in GOTM).
I'ts all straight, might just be reflections angles the way I was holding my mouth when i took the pic ;D
It's just that it's got two little dots on in what I'd imagine would be the centreline, and if you visually join them up and draw a line between them, that line isn't parallel with the strings.
Sorry, I do obsess sometimes about little visual niggles.
Love thid build Deddy. These are one of the best playig kits in the PBG stable IMO. Awesome job.
cheers,
Gav.
Hi Gav, just wondering how you rate the RC-1 kit as both Deddy and myself are curiously contemplating building one at some stage. As Dedman said, this one doesn't have much grunt acoustically due to very small f sound holes and tend to think the Riccy might be the same and would appreciate your feedback.
Sorry to hijack the thread Dedman but figured you wouldn't mind as it sort of relates to you to.
Cheers, Waz
I dont know how i missed this entire build but man... literally at a loss for words, black... the filtertrons, I would buy this if I seen it hanging in a guitar shop on looks alone <3
Update on this, I spent a morning redoing the set up, I wasn't happy with it. ended up taking the bridge off and taking probably 1mm off the top of the ebony base, fiddled with the truss rod, adjusted pick up height. It's like a new guitar! It has a great low action, the intonation is spot on and the pick ups are really sparkly. A morning well spent.
