Probably quite true, the exercise was more about eliminating clutter on the face. It's getting a three way switch and a single volume knob. The buried jack was part of that drive.

Really liking how this is going Frankie. Super clean
Cheers Deddy, It's going to be a while getting the mounting plate done, but it seems to be going well.
A little more progress and a bit of a mock build happeninghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...fad0529311.jpg
Need to do some rewiring work but my proof of concept Perspex pick up plate works!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...06704308bf.jpg I'm going to pop four screws into it to hold it in place and then I need to get some covers sorted.

I love that shape of the grain in the body. Perhaps I missed it but what are you going to do as a finish?
And here's my first attempt at cutting a nut. I imagine this will be rubbish but hey, you have a bash anyway right?

@Drummerdude, Thanks mate that's what i was shooting for.
@OliSam, Thanks, i never realised how intricate cutting a nut actually is. On review of the photo on a big screen i reckon i still have some work to do on the G string slot, it'll be a while till it gets used in anger so I reckon it should be okay.
Looking forward to see that finish FrankenWashie. And I don't see anything wrong with that nut. I'd say; great job!
Nice clean look from on top.
For the jack socket have you considered using one of these?

They come in chrome, gold and nickel too and have used them on both of my teles. Wish I had found them before doing the explorers as these give a much smoother and cleaner line to the edge where jack socket is located.
I've seen those Waz, but I had already bored a recess into the body with a flat bottom for the deep panel jack. The whole thing sits about a half inch into the body edge.
Yeah, just had another look and saw that there was a hole behind the volume knob therefore too late for one of these.
OK, so what is that hole behind the volume pot for?
Edit, quick trip to Spec Savers and now I can see it is the PUP selector switch. All good now.
looking forward to see this finished Frank, really like the idea around it i got a bit softy for teles
nut looks good FW, but the proof will be when you are finally setting up and making the height work. I muffed my first one.
Hey FW.
I'll do a lap for you mate!

So I'm one coat down on the DT clear and this is how it looks this morning.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4460ace017.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e2bda7544e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...94bd7fff24.jpg
@Wazkelly, this is what I did with the jack. It uses a flea bay black barrel jack.

Nice work FW that grain is tasty!
There is some nice grain in that timber and the DT really brings it out.. nice job...
Does anyone know if it is safe/feasible to skip the intensifier coat and move straight to the finish coat? I'm really liking the rawness of the body at the moment, not sure that I want to deepen that colour anymore.

looking none to shabby there frank
i dont see why not skipping it is going to bugger anything up

Just a little bit enamoured with the colourless finish at the moment.
Intensifier skipped, first final gone on over one coat of colourless. Looking to keep it just that little bit raw.

Looking good there FW.... Some wonderful subtlety goes on when the wood can speak for itself.... I did similar with an Alder Strat.
nice one Franky. Is that how the kit came or did you route the pups and control cavity ? Different idea with a cover to hide the pickup cavity !
good one, interested to hear how it sounds. Is it ash ?
Will it be just 3 way switch and a volume ? what pups are going in ?
Yeah its an Ash body Wokks, it is going to be inheriting one of the SD alnico HB's and the Alnico SC from the Original FrankenWashie config.
I wanted simple and uncluttered, so it is volume and On/On/On miniswitch.
cool sounds good Franky. How is the neck looking is that at the same stage as the body ?

Basically waiting on a clear neck kit and then I'll get the finish started.
I've got decals sorted for this one as well.
