Ruben I'd give the body and neck a light fine grade 0000 steel wool between coats. Wipe it clean before the next colourless coat.

Ok sounds like a plan. Also, I was wondering what to do about the bone nut. I was looking at some of the other build diaries and a lot of people get the bone nut of their guitar replaced. Should it be a problem if I leave it as it is or...??
Ok thanks tindrrel. Is it worth getting one made or should it be fine?
It is very much worth it. :)
Ok, then can someone offer their advice on how I make this happen please? :P
You can send Dingobass an email and ask him to make one for you, or you could buy a blank off ebay and give it a go yourself (special tools required). I've been buying blanks and shaping them myself for a while now. It's a skill worth learning if you are planning on building more than a few guitars, but it's not easy.
Ok sounds like a plan
Hey Ruben,
you can always set up the bass with the plastic nut and then fit the bone nut. It's a good skill to learn and if you plan building more bass guitars worth getting the slotting files
Yeah I think i'll try the plastic nut first. This is my first guitar so we'll see how it goes :P If its worth a cracker when i'm done then i'll consider more upgrades next time. For now I've got gold tuning pegs and a gold bridge on the way, and have some neat lil gold strap pegs from the local music shop. Hope I don't get too impatient with the staining stages :P
Wokka, I was wonderin if you'd ever thought of building an acrylic guitar?? Sure someone with your skills would be able to master it! :)
Hey Ruben,
yes I've thought about a clear acrylic axe but need to do more research how to shape it and get a smooth surface, think it would take alot of wet sanding to get a smooth surface after its been shaped.
Don't rush the Dingotone coats, remember you should be letting it cure at least 3 days between coats
Best way to do that is with $100k worth of CNC. :P
Acrylic guitars sound stupidly bright and are stupidly heavy.
Possible with hand tools, but not fun. Read this: http://tymguitars.com.au/blogs/blog/...erspex-wosrite
cheers for the link Pabs. I thought wood working tools would have trouble like the router bit melting the edges.
CNC would definitely be the go. Never knew the acrylic chips are highly flammable. Could cause a disaster !
I reckon I could see one of these acrylic Mosrites in DB's collection !
Haha, yeah seems right up his alley. :D
Hey wokka,
yeah I've done only two stain coats of dingotone. last one was on sunday night so not gonna do an intensifier coat until Thursday night.
Pabs, I actually have access to a CNC machine. Gonna try and get that good mate of mine to draw me up a guitar body and try a scratch if this IB-5 works out alright :P At least, its a good thought :)...probly wont ever have the skills for it but would be awesome.
Other thing that i'd like to get old of is a chunk of English willow. Anyone know where I could get hold of some in Australia?
no worries Ruben, funny how a colourless coat is called a stain coat. I know that's what it's called on the label.
No idea where to find English willow, that's what cricket bats are made of. Some timbers might be great for a cricket bat but not necessarily a guitar/bass body. I'd guess it would be hard timber so would be hard to cut/shape and may not have a good resonance.
Yeah I was thinking cricket...we've made bats out of other timbers but trying to find some willow
Talk to your local tree surgeon, you never know what those guys can come up with :)
Thanks bro but we're in the bush...therefore...i'm probly the only one we have :P
haha no worries Ruben, invest in a chain saw, cut some trees down and let them cure/dry out for a few years you never know.
I reckon DB wishes Mosrites were built with English willow as they make such a good cricket bat according to him
Does anybody else get impatient building guitars or is it just me?!?!?!?!? I want to get to the next coat but I cant!! AARRRRRR! Might have to take me and my guitar up to cairns for a day or two in the sun :P:D
hahha Ruben it is frustrating waiting. That's why some of us have multiple builds on the go.
You could look at a fret level on the neck but you will need some tools for that
Ok...so a little bit of progress. Got my first intensifier coat on last night. Hasn't changed the colour as much as I wanted it to but its only light coats so hopefully as I do more it will.

Hey Ruben,
the colour may darken a bit more with time as the oils cure. More coats and it will darken a little more.
Looking good. Nothing wrong with natural ash look
Ruben I'm sure the gold hardware will bounce nicely on a lighter brown body
