Питбуль гитара ?
That does look good! New headstock label?!
Hey storm, such a late reply! Interesting about the different characters. I must do more study before February when we go to japan!
Hey Shazz, good to see you in the forum again mate, you have been missed.
Hey Doc, sorry I went quiet again. I will be back in full swing (kinda) shortly. Getting a new project, finally!
So quick run down of my time of absence. My husband and I moved into our home, his parents split up, my dad got cancer (treatment worked! WOOO!), I started Uni (Bach of Accounting) so I've been super busy and unable to start another g-tar with all the life events that took place.
But, I've decided to do soemthing for myself, so in my free time I'm going to do an SG-1F kit. I will start a new thread when it's action time, but for now just deliberating the possibilities :)
wow Shazz you are alive !
good to hear from you - look forward to seeing the SG-1F build. I have built two, great kits
by the way Doc got to over page 120 I think on his gold strat so he got longest thread award ! haha
Hey wokka, yep alive and breathing :)
I'm waiting to hear back from Adam but thinking of doing a triple pup config by modifying the standard 2pup body. Just needing to know if there is space between the 2 pup config for a 3rd humbucker. Or worst case I do a single coil through the middle for something a bit different, even considering a Tele neck pup 😳😳
If I can cut in a 3rd humbucker (or just go with the single coil idea) I'm going to do push/pull pots having vol/tone for each pup and then master vol. I haven't been able to find any 5 way toggle switches so will have to go with the 5 way standard switch which I'll need to cut a slot for.
Going to do a black to purple fade with black back and sides. Maybe a purple neck for something different too. Or purple head and black neck.
So many ideas in my head!
I might start my thread now cause it's going to happen one way or another :)
And dang, 120 pages! That's an effort and a half, well deserved!!
Hey Shazz, check out Fred's building a triple humbucker SG got a custom order. Sounds just like what you want to build
http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au...ead.php?t=6183
Sounds pretty awesome Shazz
Shazz you could probably get DB to route the centre humbucker cavity before it's sent to you. Then you have the flame maple veneer and will be less waiting time !
It's not that hard if you have a decent template, router and pattern following router bit.
Hey Shaz I can measure the distance between neck and bridge pup, I have a spare SG-1F body that is unfinished. Pretty sure it will fit but it's tight. The pup rings almost touch each other haha
If I remember I will post tonight on this thread and put 3 pup rings over the body and photograph it
no worries Shazz, or I will just place a pup ring on a finished SG-1F and make sure it fits
Hey Shazz! Welcome back. Glad to see we have the same inspiration! 😀
On mine the 3x pup rings just fit, but it's custom order as you saw so will be worth checking how much clearance there is between the 2x pups on std kit.
I am using a P90 in a humbucker format for my middle pickup, a tonerider rebel90. It looks great with the row of screws in the middle!
Forgot to add, for switching I'm going to use a 6 way Freeway switch from Stewmac, will give me option to use each pickup individually or any combination of 2x pups.
I'm also using seymour duncan rings for the HB that will allow all wiring options, serial, parallel and single coil...
It's a bit crazy but it's not meant to be a performance guitar, more an experimental one!
Hey Fred.
Great minds think alike! I was originally planning to do an LP-1 kit, but just last weekend my husband and I purchased a Gibson LP. So wouldn't really compare haha
Yours is coming along real nice, love the colour!
Yeah the black beauty for example has a very tight fit, looks about maybe 3-4mm of Face left between the pup cavities( with pups removed.)
Ooh nice choice of pups! I'm not sure what I'm going to run yet. Looking at the toneriders but possibly, if I can bring myself to do it, go EMG's 😍
Yep there's about 3-4mm between pup routes... very tight!
Hi Shazz, great to see you back in the forum, we all missed you mate.
The good thing with using a full face scratchplate is that you don't have to have the cleanest route... you could just remove the wood between the 2x pups and make a large 'swimming pool route' like they do on some strats
Hey Shazz. Pup rings fit with about 1-2mm gap each side so it's tight but will work. The pups and rings are full size humbuckers. I think you should use the access to the power tools you have. Have a practice run on a router first with scrap wood and the closer you get the template the better the route will be. Just copy the bridge pup route shape for the template
I was going to go for flamed veneer version for my 3 pups SG, but in the end I'm glad I didn't as I wouldn't have been able to reshape the bevels.
I found the bevels way too small on the standard kit, made the edges almost square instead of the 'blade-like' profile I had in mind for an SG.
Welcome back Shazz!
hi SHAZZ thanks for your reply, ive actually finished the build and like you I'm gonna have to do a total rewire (crappy wire came with the kit resulting in lots of buzz/noise )
also did you have any trouble with the trem system ? when I fitted it the two screws that hold it to the top of the guitar are not supported underneath so one of them is being pulled out of the body by use of the trem and I expect the other will follow.
the trem bar also sits way too high off the body.
any help is much appreciated, thanks again NULLIG. p.s. did you do fret leveling ?
