is it possible to spray over a finish that was previously done in tung oil?
just wondering cos i might change my mind if the tung oil finish doesnt come up the way i expected

Hi Mark. I think the paint would reject over tung oil. I suggest you apply some tung oil on scrap wood. Let it cure and try find an oil based primer paint and spray on that and see how it goes. It may help to try sand the bulk of the tung oil off if there is a reaction with the test piece. Good luck interested to hear the results. What kit or guitar is it?

but if it fails i would like to go Olympic white over the top of the tung oil
Difficult look to capture using tung oil. That original Fender finish was a translucent near-white cream coloured coat, followed by several coats of 'clear' lacquer (which wasn't actually clear but slightly amber tinted) and which yellows with age. Modern imitations use a more creamy base coat and amber tinted top coats to recreate the aged look.
