BC-1 Neck Pocket Taper query

Hi Forum
My son and I are building a BC-1 and had a query regarding the neck pocket taper. From reading other threads it seems the taper is normal and necessary.
Question: Should we sand the end of the neck to match the pocket taper thereby reducing the width of the gap between the pocket and the neck?

some careful and gentle sanding to make it all fit better is fine. Make sure you dont change the neck angle though
