Anyone built their own wooden stomp box?

I have only ever played acoustically live, and I have seen the occasional performer using a stomp box in accompaniment to their guitar and vocals, and thought it sounded great.
Has anyone tried building one themselves? What would be involved?
I've found some on sale for about $80, so building one might not be economically feasible, but it would certainly be a fun project.

I built a slightly modified Orange Squeezer (simple Dan Armstrong design compessor) stomp box that I put in a wooden case. I love it but am guessing you mean something else...

I made one years ago. Just made a simple box about the size of a cigar box and put a piezo pickup from Jaycar in it and wired it to a jack. From memory it worked okay, but to get the right kind of "thump" out of it takes a bit of trial and error with where you place the piezo.
    Completed Builds: #1 TL-1 "Telemaster" (GOTM Oct 2016); #2 The "Maplecaster" scratch build; #3 JB-4 "Bass IV" (co-winner GOTM Jan 2017); #4 ST-1M "Surfcaster" (GOTM Apr 2017), #5 JZA-1 "EC Deluxe"

    In Progress:
    Build #6 N1R "Semi-scratch" build
    Build #7 JZA-1 Baritone

    The Cavan Project
    The Magnificent Compaņeros

You lost me at Orange Squeezer!! The rest of it may have been in Klingon!!
Thanks for trying to help though.
I think Chuck is on the right path.

You're talking about the thing that John Williamson & Mungo Jerry thump their foot on not an effects pedal that fender3x was talking about

Hi Zandit, have a search on youtube how to build a stomp box, can't be that hard to build one.
I'm sure there are plenty of videos to help you out.
Sounds like piezo placement is important.

I've checked out some videos on Youtube, and some use speakers, others use piezo pickups.
I saw the one you mentioned Stan, certainly a different take on the idea!

i guess a speaker backwards is a microphone of sorts... depends if you want a muffled thump or a tighter sound like a drum I guess
