    Pablo's new CBG build

So to get in a bit of practice building necks, I thought I'd build a few more CBGs. First one starts now. This time I'm gonna give myself more than one afternoon to get it together...

first things first, gotta plan and make some measurements.

Using Tasmanian oak for the neck and a small box, because it's going to be an electric.

    Scarf joint cut.

Cleaned up and ready for glue.

Made a notch to fit in to the box and to leave a small step so the fretboard isn't flush with the top.

And then very carefully marked out the fret positions. All ready to be slotted.

    This is fun!

cool project Pabs got to love a CBG project. Nice progress, the cigar box is pretty long and skinny.
What pup you got planned a single coil, mini humbucker or piezo ?
What did the scale length work out to be ?

I've got a tele neck pickup to go in. Just the single pickup. And the scale length ended up being 25". 18 frets.

cool sounds good Pabs, so presume a 4 stringer ? Also presume you will just route a notch in the neck for the pup and the profile for the box top. So 25" scale right in between F and G scale !
So now I see why you got the fretsaw from your Carbatec haul !

actually he got his fret saw from someone very nice for whom he did some truly excellent work for....

this is looking very cool Pabs, interested to see how the Tas oak neck works out, i've been thinking of using it myself, don't know why it shouldn't be fine..

    Interesting...verrry interesting....

Did you hand cut the scarf joint or use a power saw/band saw?
I'm always curious as to how much extra length you need to build into these to get the right length of fretboard/neck.

Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.

dont know about Pabs, but I'd make both sections too long and be able to cut off each end to get it right...
