Scored myself a nice all-maple Telecaster neck today.

    Hi guys,

I just scored myself a nice all maple Telecaster neck from a guy who fitted a new Bone nut to my LP Studio guitar today, looks like I'm one step closer to building that replica 51 Tele I'm interested in, or, I could use it to build a second Tele, here's a pic so you can see what it looks like, it's a non-PBG neck cause on the back of the headstock is a clear plastic sticker that reads Andoer made In China:

It may need a little bit of a tweak to get the headstock shape correct, I might wait till I buy a Telecaster body for it, the neck has already been pre-finished as far as I can tell, it feels like a clear satin finish, i do know that the nut has been cut so that the 1st fret action is a mile high so that definitely needs some re-working.

Yep, considering that the very first Telecasters (they were originally called Broadcasters, but Leo Fender had to change the name to Telecaster because Gretch manufactured a drum kit called the Broadcaster) were actually made using Pine wood for the body, I wonder if I can have a yarn with Adam and see if he can do a custom order of a Pine Standard Telecaster body for me?

I still want to go with the T.V. yellow and black scratchplate look though.

I think the Broadcaster may not have had a truss rod either but I could be wrong

Hey Dedman, I think the Broadcasters had truss rods. Correct me if I'm wrong by all means. I know my buddy's early broadcaster certainly had one. But a lot of the early Esquires had no truss rod at all.

You're actually correct, initially the Broadcaster (as the Telecaster was originally named) was manufactured without a truss rod installed in the neck, it was only after some country musicians, returning from southern states, started having issues with the necks on their Broadcasters, bending/twisting due to the climate changes that Leo Fender started installing Truss rods in the necks to stabilize them.
