There is a current scam ( I had to deal with it last year) where Indian/Pakistani customer service centres get contracts with ISP's and Hosts then use their access to install malware on your site or device, then inform you that you have to buy a tool to remove it, however the links from your ISP or host don't work, you call Support and they "help" you out by giving you a direct link. I refused to pay them and my IT guy removed the malware manually, they kept saying it wasn't done and they wouldn't reinstate my site until we used their "tool". Eventually when he said he was going to report them to the FBI (I'm hosted in the USA) they suddenly decided that the site was clean. My hosting company would have no idea this is going on as the only ways you can contact them is via their "Help" centre which is actually the problem!

That's interesting, I keep getting phone calls from some company apparently based in India (judging by the accents of the people ringing me up), they tell me that they have a parcel they need to deliver to me which contains a Laptop, Mobile Phone, or an mp3 player, and ask me to give them my address, I keep telling them I'm not interested in the parcel cause I already have one of each of those devices, and I ask them to please do not ring me again, last time that happened I got about three of those calls in a row, I couldn't note down their number as it came up as "Private Number" on my phone, next time I get a call from them I'll say that I'll be reporting them to the FBI and the Australian Telecommunications Ombudsman if they ring me up again, and see how they react to that.

Makes me wonder why these people, who do this, don't use their brains and comply with my requests to stop calling me, some of them sound like they are a bit inept at understanding that I'm not interested in the parcel whatsoever.

That's a good one mate, that's like giving them a taste of their own medicine, they don't like it, do they?, I reckon what the governments of all the countries of the world should do is get together and form a global coalition to bring all these scammers to justice, and then severely prosecute them to the full extent of the law, maybe get them to pay a huge amount of compensation money to all the people they scammed, and here's the twist, they have to do hard labor breaking rocks at 10 cents per hour to earn the money to pay the compensation money, that should send a clear message to them.

Funny Deadman lol, it's a bit like my brother when he was called he said before you go on let me talk to you about mortgages and life insurance 10 secs later the phone was put down. It's really irritating they call even though your on the not call list. Surely Telstra know who they are and block there calls.

A bit like when certain religious organisations knock at in opportune times to talk about their god.

I have been know to use two different scenarios, if it's adults I launch into the book of Linux and talk about daemons etc.

If they have children ( rather sadly I lead them on ) with talk about the god that loves all creatures and how like babies and the like have never sinned, then go on to talk about the "Great Flood" and point out that the little puppies and kittens had never sinned so why did he choose to drown all of those helpless innocent little animals.

Not nice I know but it does lead to some interesting conversations between parents and kids as they walk away

I've been around for long enough to be deeply in "get off my lawn" territory and object to door knockers of the literal or telephone kind

Pity we have to put up with this ort of harassment.

For the phone jerks I have used 'Hang on a minute, just have to turn the stove off' and never return....they usually hang up after 30 seconds but still keep ringing back.

The best one was 'Who are you? Do you realise you called an unlisted Federal Police Number? I need your name, contact details, and who authorised this call' by which time they have hung up and never call back.

With the door knockers, when living in a country town on the Darling Downs in Southern Qld about 27 years ago I couldn't help myself. The usual crowd turned up on a Saturday morning banging on about devil worshippers in our midst which led me to invite them inside to taste some of the goats head soup we were cooking up! The look of astonishment on their faces was priceless but probably not the best thing for one of the town's bank manager's to be telling this sort of stuff to potential customers however it was a good laugh at the time.
